I have no stupid business to be nosey and yet..

As I read my paper one whistle two…three…four …hey whats for breakfast pongal …yuk. I do like pongal but eating it for breakfast. Or perhaps the usual rice is getting cooookkkkeed all because she is busy doing something else?
Drip drip drip drip and then whoooosh …I go about my prayers. I stop to listen is anyone closing the tap or putting off the motor. The water seems to be overflowing…!!! What a waste in these times of water scarcity. And it flows on…..
Mmm that’s yummy pickles. Looks like mango inji (ginger). Never knew we could get it in the market. Perhaps it is from the village. Must try it out sometime…the aroma speaks of asafetida and perhaps a little bit of imli too..nosewatering…chee …mouthwatering..!!
Dinner time and it is venthaya dosa? The smell of ground fenugreek seeds does wonders to the body and mind. The bitter taste not interfering…it tastes yummy. Whats for side dish ? cant make out….perhaps it is afternoons left over sambar or coconut chutney. Well they could heat the sambar and add a dash of ghee and temper the chutney with curry leaves….
hey that phone is ringing all day....is there anyone to answer...definitely not for me...not my number...i have my cell with me....and why dont they stop calling...its ringing all day surely no answer means no one there....
Now that koottu has no salt at all and looks like it has too many tomatoes in it. Could have tasted it before packing for hubby and kids. Why should I worry as if my kids are going to suffer.?
Milk boiled over again….feel like shouting …hey the milk is boiling over….it costs twenty bucks ya…a litre I mean…and poor cow she is milked to the skin and udder….do put off the stove…it is smelling as if the whole house is on fire and the vessel has an inch of ``free gift black Teflon(??) coating’’ cant remove it in a hurry…why bother just shut my nose(??????)
Amavasya and garlick rasam. Why do they have to choose this combo just on this day. Garlick is fine with rasam subji or whatever but why on amavasya just when I have had a bath and saying my prayers…!! Bah will they every change..
Smells like rotten fish whatever are they heating up? Burning tires or what? It is not right to burn plastics and tyres on the road.

Bad MIL you say ….promise.... ask my DDIL im cho chweet….all this are experiences with the neighbours…me and my nose???? Keep out???

    Dear sathya,
Really a hilarious and wonderful write up!!!
smell and taste are in fact but a single composite sense, whose laboratory is the mouth and its chimney the nose. Your post stand as an example to this. What an unexpected twist in the end!!! Cookery is not chemistry. It is an art. It requires instinct and taste rather than exact measurements.”That taste comes from the smell only. This has been nicely brought out in your write up!!!!
Enjoyed a lot visualizing the scene.
    with love

    Dear Sathya,
    Hilarious, enjoyed it a lot.
Your are not nosey ,i would say you are aware of what is happening. Your eyes working, ears in good condition and all senses are in perfect order and this makes you aware of what is happening. Your mind to is very active.
    Lovely

:thumbsupThat was really funny. I did think at first that it was a grumbling MIL !

These days, people living in apartments ( i do) hear and smell a lot more than necessary ! ( and someone in my block is always burning milk just when we start breakfast !)
Amavasya and Garlic ! :) In the same league as mutton curry on Sankranthi ( Pongal festival) day that I experienced !

We just have to console ourselves that there's a brighter side . That all these smells from all over will keep our noses in good working order !

Arn't we glad we are not dogs ! Imagine their plight with their super sensitive noses that can smell not only the smells of the neighbouring houses but of the whole neighbourhood !

    dear padmini

haha glad you liked it. i agree...
    cooking is an art
and like delhi ganesh in most movies
where he is the head cook
can figure out if there is salt or not in a dish...!!

    Typical Sathya's style...enjoyed it wholly.
Exactly even if we are not nosy..it is thrust upon us.

But we should be happy because of 'this nosey' business, as my co-sister is going through an episode of not able to smell things like before and she is getting some treatment to it!

    that lovely vengaya vathakuzhambu
    and potato fry
(if you have a good nose ????
