how to stop thumb-sucking habit

10 month old thumb sucking

Hello all,

My 10 month is sucking his finger badly and cries whenever I try to remove it.
Can anyone suggest some ways to stop him from that habit?

hi soumya,
when my son was small even he use to suck his thumb every one use to warn me about his teeth,so i also got tensed and i brought hand gloves for him and put it in his hands,he use to get veyr frustrated and one day he became numb and blue did not cry for minutes,we had to beat him on his back to get him his concious back,we went to the dr and he asked any changes made in his daily habbits than i told him about thumb sucking,he said let him slowly leave the habbit dont force him to do it.only be shure when he is sleeping u dont leave the thumb in his mouth.and we did what the dr said.my son in 15months old but his practice of thumb sucking is no more with him.so keep patient dont be in a hurry.u can try some bitter taste on his thumb,put bandage and see what happens and dont loose hope.love to your cute son.

hi my daughter is 9 months old n sucks her thumb wen hungry n sleepy...
d moment she sleeps her finger is out...
docs told us not to worry....

my daughter is 4 years old and she is still sucking her thumb , i dnt know how to control this habit , have used all the meathods , dnt know how to stop it pls suggest some remedies at the earliesT

Thumbsucking

Hey all

LO is going to be 2 months and for the past 2 days, she sucks her thumb very often. Initially she had difficulties in taking the thumb to her mouth, but now she has learnt it perfectly. She seems to suck and go to sleep. EVen when she wakes up in the middle, she sucks her thumb and soothes back to sleep.

Will this affect her appetite? Will she be able to overcome this after some months? I know of cousins who could not get over this habit and went to school 7-9 years sucking their thumbs !!!

wow i never thought about this ramya, zoey does this too...i mean i feed her n she is full stomach n 10 mins later she sucks her thumb...wonder why?

for those fussy times i tried pacifier desperately and she just spits it out. she keeps sucking her thumb to glory though!
