How to reach Ajmer Sharif?

Hi! I happened to know that Ajmer Sharif is a really sacrad place and very popular as well. They say that all your wishes come true and you are blessed by god once you visit the shrine. I am from Delhi and am really keen on visiting the shrine.

Just wanted to enquire how many day trip will it be and what is the preferable mode of travel from Delhi to Ajmer.

If somebody wants to make a combined trip with Jaipr, would that be possible and what are the other tourists attractions near Ajmer?

You can reach Ajmer by bus, car, train or even flight. The nearest airport is Jaipur. Jaipur is just 134 kms from Ajmer.
By Bus- Ajmer is just 394 kms from Delhi. There are plenty of bus connections from Delhi to Ajmer. You can enquire for Rajasthan Roadways bus or commercial Volvo bus services from Delhi.
By train - There are many trains available from Delhi. I prefer to take the Ajmer Shatabdi (Train no 12015) or the Ahmedabad Rajdhani (Train no 12958).
You can easily combine a trip to Ajmer and Jaipur. You can also hire a private car/taxi for your Ajmer and Jaipur round trip. You can enquire at the local cab service.

Places to visit near Ajmer are:
· Pushkar
For a devout Hindu, Pushkar is a very important pilgrim center. According to the legend, Pushkar means a pond created by a flower which was formed when Brahma dropped a lotus flower on the earth to determine a place for his yagna. The story goes that Brahma wanted to perform the yagna at the most auspicious time but his consort Savitri whose presence at the yagna was vital for its performance kept him waiting. Irritated by this Brahma married Gayatri, a milkmaid and installed her instead. Savitri on seeing someone else in her place was infuriated and cursed Brahma that he would be forgotten by people on earth and never worshiped. She relented on pleas from other Gods that he could only be worshiped in Pushkar, hence there are no Brahma Temples elsewhere. Pushkar is a much loved tourist destination, many who visit there just fall in love with the place. It is situated on the edge of the desert and is separated from Ajmer by the Nag Parbat (the snake hill). The town has very distinct tourist excitement with narrow lanes lined with shops selling various accessories and rooftop restaurants. Despite its high tourist profile the town maintains some mystical charm.
· Kishangarh
Kishangarh is 27 Kms north east of Ajmer and is one of the finest schools of miniatures paintings. The artist of this school favored evening lights and grey skies with fine colors. The town is also an industrial town for marble and textiles.
· Tilonia
Tilonia is a small town 25 kms from Kishangarh near Ajmer and 7 kms off Jaipur-Ajmer highway. Barefoot college inspires this town, which began in 1972 with the conviction that solutions to rural problems lie within the community. The College, officially known as Social Work and Research Centre, addresses problems of drinking water, girl education, health & sanitation, rural unemployment, income generation, electricity and power, as well as social awareness and the conservation of ecological systems in rural communities.
