I live in high-rise building in metropolitan and am looking to move to warm state. So far, San Antonio Texas is in my view. However, San Antonio, TX - Detailed climate information and monthly weather forecast | Weather Atlas says San Antonio is most flood-prone with occasional visits from Tornados. How do you protect your home and car from floods and Tornados? What material should your home be made of? How do you know if you home is high enough and away from low-lying flood areas. What type of car is mos resistant to floods and hurricanes? So many people say get realtor but realtor only want $$$. Ladies and Gents, please help!!!!!!!!!!
SD - San Antonio reminds me of Venice! It's not hurricane prone, it's 200 odd miles from the coastline. Any decent car would suffice. Most alleys around TX floods when it rains and drains in a few hrs. The only bad flooding was in Houston from a Hurricane a couple of years ago when homes were completely flooded and hoards of people lost everything. I'm not sure that level of flooding occurs regularly in most TX cities. Make sure you get good flood/tornado ins coverage when you get a home. Tornadoes occur more in North Texas, SA isn't in the Tornado Alley. Even in the Tornado Alley, it's not all that bad as people make it out to be. I would look at good school dt, resale etc and purchase a house. Most likely the better suburbs are the high elevation, less flood prone areas. Good Luck!!!
When you buy a house check, the flood zone map and try to stay away from the 100-year flood zone. In some cases 500 years flood zone houses were flooded. If it's close to creek/lake/ River, you will pay more for flood insurance and TX property tax is more expensive than most of other state but they don’t have state tax.I feel tornado risk is low, and it's like a bad lottery because you could lose your house and your neighbor’s house be fine. I have lived in Texas before and I am also planning to move to south after Covid-19.
Woweeeee, even 500-year flood zone is a danger??????? Goodness, I was thinking, 500 zone was reasonably safe. Thank you for this info!
I am not saying that way. I talked with one of the realtor and she said 500-year flood zone houses were flooded from Harvey, but still that was a once in a lifetime event.
