    Re: Prawn kulambu

    hi poova,
Good to know we stay in the same Island! I don know about the kulambu in restaurant! or I have tasted it !!

    Prawn Curry

    100gms Medium Prawns
    1 Onion
    1 cup oil (gingly oil)<span4756753></span4756753>
3 teaspoon Garlic and Ginger ground together
    2 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
    3 teaspoon Red Chili powder
    2 teaspoon Coriander Powder
    2 teaspoon Salt
    1 teaspoon <span4756753>Turmeric</span4756753> powder
    1 Coconut grated

Wash prawns and rub in salt and turmeric. Set aside. Heat oil, add sliced onion and fry until yellow. Add all the other <span4756753>spices</span4756753> and fry 2-3 minutes and then add prawns. Mix prawns together with the spices and the add either grated coconut, add 1 cup hot water. Cover and cook over slow fire until prawns are tender and a very thick gravy remains. Or you can add sombu and coconut blended up in mixie and add it finally..It will enhance the taste!

This is how I have done once..!

    Regards

    Re: Prawn kulambu

In a vessel add 3 tables spoons of home made chilli powder - used for sambar ; if not add plain chilli powder. In the case of plain chilli powder add coriander powder 1:2 ratio.
Take a lemon sized or slightly bigger size of tamarind and extract it.

Mix this tamarind juice with chilli powder, salt, turmeric powder and requeired amount of water.Keep aside.

    Heat oil
temper with 1 tsp of mustard seeds alone
Once it splutters add 1 handfull of chopped onions
Once it gets pale add crushed ginger(1") and thinly sliced garlic(4-5 pods)
Saute till onion becomes golden brown
Next add chopped tomatoes (3 medium sized)
And add 3 green chillies slit in the center
Once this gets sauted add cleaned prawns and saute for few mins.
Now add the chilli powder mixture to this and let it boil well. Once it reduces little add little more water and boil again in medium flame.

    Once oil separates switch off.

More the oil, more the taste for fish kuzhambhu or prawn kuzhambhu.
