I use a comb, let my hair air-dry, never use heat and use just a couple of drops of argan oil on my damp hair to keep down the frizz. My hair has retained its natural waves and curls.
If you’re getting a hair cut make sure you go to someone who knows how to cut curly hair.

I was born with curly hair and I hated it till I turned 40. I was used to watch all shiny straight long hair in shampoo advertisements and always thought that was normal . I used to be in tears untangling my hair after washing my hair with shampoo during my childhood days . When I became adult after I had kids ,I was done with my hair and cut it really short . I went on and on like this till lockdown when I decided to grow my hair more out of necessity . I searched for products which would help my hair and watched videos on hair care . First switched from plastic comb to wide width bamboo comb . Plastic comb causes friction and damaged hair . I haven’t used normal comb in 2 years . Use special conditioner and shampoo for curly hair . Good search in Amazon helps . I apply little bit of shampoo first and wash the dirt of hair and then soak my hair in conditioner for few minutes . I also got a goat milk based curls leave on conditioner which I apply when hair is wet . Sometimes when I don’t like these products I just apply some coconut oil and don’t tie my hair tight . You also need to use satin pillow covers to avoid friction . I love my curls now and cannot wait for my hair to grow little longer . I also apply hair mask and shikakai once a month . I think just understanding what works for you and simple routine during hair wash goes a long way in maintaining your curls .

When I went to India for (failed) matrimonial alliance, I too was taught to hate my curly hair.

Now I fiercely lovely curly hair. ❤️

I bet you have lovely curly locks!

Whatever happens I am not using hairbrush again. I used it once, it was awful, and I got late to work!

if possible I can return to Amazon for full refund (hairbrush came with mini hairbrush, come, and a mascara wand) of $15

It's interesting what I do with my hair after shampoo can make it look like a new haircut almost. I have wavy thick hair. I usually shampoo, condition (suitable for curly hair), and use a leave-in conditioner (a tiny amount of hair milk). Then, if I want less curly hair, I comb with a wide-toothed comb (bamboo as @mangaii suggested) and tie it in a ponytail until my hair dries...take out the hair tie later and I get almost straight hair.

If I want to keep my natural curls, I won't comb after the leave-in conditioner. I just use my fingers to untangle it and let it air dry. Curls stay as such!

Wow ladies! Please suggest product names for shampoo conditioner and goat milk leave in that worked. Curly hair runs in my family though I don’t have it. My son does though and I’m at my wits ends about how to guide him. He’s an adult now so I can only suggest! :)

Nothing special. I use Tresseme for curly hair (I have tried all sorts of fancy shampoo but this works the best for my hair type). For the leave-in conditioner, I use 'Carols Daughters' Hair Milk'. It's thick and needs only a tiny amount. I use the hair milk for my daughter's hair as well. Her hair is thin and wavy and tangles easily.

Thank you so much. I will definitely order them. I have wavy hair too so maybe I’ll even try out the hair milk.
