CINEMAS - then- tent theatre three shows in a row - Hindi English and tamil Sunday morning shows heist class <Rs5 advance booking only mornings at theatre - shabby toilets and interiors cheap eats and smoke - pictures used to run 50 days 100 days even over one year In Maratha Mandhir then Bombay Hindi movie ran for over two years or so - lovers rendezvous NOW- expensive Junk food, ticket differential rates online booking less crowded - movies taken a beating because of satellite TVs proliferation 6. TRAVEL - Then - pleasure and plenty of roads to negotiate - less number of vehicles ply only ambassador and Fiat taxis NOW - too many vehicles less or no roads huge traffic snarls - terrific pollution in Indian cities 7. HEALTH - Then - less doctors - no waiting or previous appointments for consultation - less diseases cheaper medicines no specialist many survived by Grandma/home remedies no Med insurance NOW - enormous confusion allopathy homeopathy unani siddha - expensive - insurance a must 8. MARINA Beach in Chennai - then - peaceful not many statues facing West no memorials of political leaders, not much traffic, no lighting, manga thenga Pattani Sundal, Rita stick ice cream quarter Anna or one Anna ( 1/16 of a Rupee) - LOVERS’ rendezvous - free radio of corporation radio status symbol NOW - horrible nasty milling crowd along the larger stretch from Hamilton bridge to Thiruuvanmiyur - numerous makeshift shops selling unhygienic eats, beverage & drinks generating huge waste thrown thoughtlessly here and there - too much traffic 9. DAWN WALK - Then a pleasureAll over it was peaceful rich in ozone NOW - a nightmare - dust bowl streets, breath through pollution rich acid filled air free of ozone DRESSES & ATTIRE - then - few varieties dull shades wash & wear iron sometimes washing was an exercise on stones with water buckets drawn from well no gym was necessary NOW - wide varieties in apparels for men and women boys and girls and even infants babies in arms less frequently washed 10. LIVING - Then - high thinking Simple living & Gadgets free world NOW - it is reversed. High living Simple Thinking no or less hobnobbing 11. SAFETY & SECURITY- Then less crimes less or no rapes but then - it could be due to less population, easy policing NOW - difficult even With huge police force (men & women) more crimes ever increasing rapes, stalkers, newer method in robberies as lifting ATMs, technology related thefts, hoodwink elders LOVE - then permanent, less complicated economical scientific...soul stirring feather touch blended ..lasting friendship till the end of journey.
