This year I planted all my plants in grow bag as it is first year in new home. I noticed only one side of my backyard gets full 6-8 hr sunlight and other sides only 4-5 hrs( morning my backyard tree give shade and in afternoon after 4,my Back neighbor tree give shade).Should I put raised bed only that side or can I grow any thing else in that 4-5 hr sunlight area? I have planned to put green leafy (cilantro, methi, mint and spinach ) in another side where sunlight is 4-5 hr but I like to put L shape raised bed . I mean two straight raised bed and two vertical raised bed where there is 4-5 hr sunlight? How many raised bed needed for a family of 4? I love gardening but next year going to be the first year in raised bed ,like to grow even creeper Veggie plants which avoided this year.
    1. How many raised you have?
    2. What plants you can grow apart from leafy vegetables in shade area?
    3. How do you plan which crop go in which raised bed.?

    TIA

I have 2 beds for tomatoes and one for squash. One for okra. I grow peppers and herbs in containers.
How much you grow will depend on your family’s likes.
I have about 14 tomato plants this year and about a dozen peppers. 6 okras and 6 squash. That’s way too much for just us but I share with friends and neighbors.
If the spot gets 4-5 hours of midday sun you can try planting regular vegetables too. You might get slightly lower yields but they should grow.

4 feet across x 12 feet long. The width should be small enough that you can easily reach into the bed without having to step into it. I don’t have any actual edging for the beds. I just pile on amendments, soil and mulch so that it is about 6 inches higher than ground level.
