I believe cctv footage would hv revealed the times and images of person entering and leaving the toilet.

I believe this wasn’t just on the one flight. The Aussies are the ones talking about it. My Dad always warned me before each flight to not my guard down in Doha regardless of how safe I felt. The Islamic countries don’t care for human rights. If you are there, it’s fair game for them to do what they do to their citizens. I can’t imagine going through an invasive vaginal exam while in an ambulance on a tarmac.

Babies abandoned at birth is a sad reality. There are some measures in place to take care of such babies. Women who happened to be near an abandoned baby being randomly examined like this is a new event. So, it gets more notice in the news. And that is fair enough.

"Apprehend"? Wow... she is judged and blamed even before she is identified and before we know why she chose to do that, did she do it voluntarily. And funnily, no one asks about the investigation into who is the father. : )

It’s a middle eastern state. They won’t ever agree to have apprehended the woman and also punished her. In Qatar it’s a punishable offense to have premarital sex, which is probably why this lady who went into preterm labor in the airport didn’t seek medical attention for the baby. If they started checking passengers on the plane, they probably didn’t stop until they found the mother. They will not release proof of their human rights violation, so we won’t know what happened to her but knowing middle eastern countries, it’s probably not something humane.

Cannot understand why people visit such a country. Maybe it is good for men only.

The sad part is, there is probably more things happening that we never hear about.

I hope airlines like Air India don't have layover in Gulf states. If I'm not mistaken, they stop in UK, etc. But you never know, what if airline has to make emergency landing. Really scary!

I saw a blog post about a girl wearing a bathing suit and showing TSA officer. The officer said she was good to go. Really? We have come to this point?

I hope these women band together and sue. This should be more publicized to prevent such things and make positive changes. So no woman has to feel trapped at home because she cannot trust the world outside.

I also hope their government takes drastic measures for torturing their citizens abroad.

Strip search for contraband? Women only?

How we treat the weakest members of society shows what nice people we are. What do we do as individuals to make this world a better place?

This makes sense. The authorities are lack a heart, lack a brain.

    What is Oct 26th?

Does anyone check cctv? Does their cctv even work?

Lot of women keep quiet due to shame. Several Crime Patrol episodes show women not reporting rapes because it would dishonor them and their families.

How does one not let their guard down. Can you give some examples. Lot of people, especially ladies don't understand this. i wish to learn this myself. How would you act in these countries, vs India or USA (I presume you are in USA because of your Beto avatar)?

Many times, women are forced into this. I read that women are jailed if they have been raped (because it is sex outside of marriage).

You are right, no one ever asks about the father, who is most likely the villain in these cases.

Hope the Australian ladies speak loud and clear and empower others to do the same.

    Feeling terrible about this.

You’ve asked a question that has been fermenting in my mind since I read the article. I have a young daughter. We transit through the Middle East because it’s an easy journey for us(nobody else flies directly to Kerala). We’ve flown Qatar exclusively for a few years now because of their service. It could have easily been us. I shudder at the thought of my DD going through this experience on a tarmac.

With my DD, even to shower in Doha, I accompany her. I have never let her use a restroom alone. I get raving mad if my DH tells me she’s a big girl and “shouldn’t need an escort to the bathroom”. None of that would have been sufficient in this case. This news is an eye opener for me. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to travel those routes comfortably.

I love Dubai. It’s the most happening cities I’ve been to. I always felt safe there. I’ve only visited though and have always been with family who know the place. Tons of Indians live and work all over the ME region. It’s crazy these laws.

It’s nothing that those women did or didn’t do that caused this. It’s the culture and rules. I don’t think any of those victims did anything out of the ordinary other than transiting on the particular day. Unfortunately, while you transit, however brief the halt, this can happen - that’s a good message to derive from this news.

I was shaking with anger and crying when I read of this.

Forgive me if I don't understand marriage and the male mindset, but I would think that Father is more more overprotective of his daughter than Mother, whether she is 5 or 50.

If possible, can you tell us if you showed DH this article? And what was his reaction

Family usually brings warmth to such places. How do Indians cope in ME, I cannot imagine!

Now I know avoid airlines from these countries, no matter how cheap and luxurious the amenities. Better to have many layovers in countries like UK, etc where a woman has the luxury of NOT being violated, IMO.

Not necessarily. How many moms accompany their almost adult daughters to the restroom during a layover? I know only me who did that.

He said I’m always right. He also said we were never transiting through the ME again. I have a feeling I won’t be visiting my cousins again :weary:

Just like they cope in every place outside of India, I’m sure. It is more difficult than living in the US, I’m sure. We do take a lot of things for granted with this country!

True. The article, like I said earlier, is an eye opener. I didn’t expect blatant human rights violation with citizens of another country but looks like their turf, their rules :BangHead::BangHead: . It’s akin to sexual harassment. They are also going to get away with it because other than not flying the airline, there is not much else the international community can do.
