    Kollu as it is known in Tamil is widely used in day to day cooking. It is widely grown crop in Tamil Nadu. Good source of protein &other nutrients. It’s a bean with high medicinal qualities. Prepared as sundal a snack item or used to make Kollu rasam a soup like dish but usually taken along with white rice. Horse gram benefits us by helping in digestion, Skin care &

    Hair growth.


    Kollu sundal

    Take required amount of horsegram and soak it overnight.

    Cook the soaked horse gram in a pressure cooker with some water.

    Filter the water & in a pan, add some oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, urad dal, red chillies &fry it golden brown. Add the horse gram, salt and grated coconuts. Mix well and serve hot.


    KOLLU RASAM


    Cook some horse gram in a pressure cooker and then add salt, rasam powder to it and simmer it for some time. pour water to dilute the rasam powder and add curry leaves. When it reaches soup like consistency, remove from fire. Serve with white rice.

    (RASAM POWDER- coriander seeds, redchilles, pepper, cumin seeds, tur dal, Bengal gram all in equal measures. Just fry and grind it)

    In Andhra, Ulavacharu(made of horse gram) is very famous and one of the traditional food.It is usually served along with cream(dont know why) in almost every wedding. Recent times, they have invented Ulavacharu biriyani which is also equally popular nowadays

    thanks for the reply brother. Even I heard of ulavacharu, but I'm not clear with the recipe. thanks creativeammu for sharing the info.
