    Hello:

Hibiscus drink is new to me. But in our native town in Karnataka, we used hibiscus leaves pounded and soaked in water, to wash our hair. Red hibiscus flowers are supposed to be good for hair and is used in hair oils. White hibiscus flower is good for asthma and menstrual problems.

Growing hibiscus or any flower is definitely a pleasure.

    Hi Puni88:

Maybe you should have brought the plant indoors during winter. Since hibiscus is a tropical plant I think it needs winter protection. Decidious plants shed leaves and grow them back in spring.

    ---My opinion

NO Idea, but it was a summer plant. I see many people have hibiscus outside which comes out during spring ...

    AC Dear,

U know my container gardening. Now my hibiscus is 4 ft...with hardened branches..and does not have look like a bush anymore...the leaves are less..and it gives you a skeleton like look..though the existing leaves are healthy and get flowers almost daily.

Thinking of changing the soil and cutting the roots a little big ....do you think i should cut of a few branches....

just donate the plant to somebody having space on ground level????

Sindhu's reply is correct. It is a tropical plant. For example I live in zone 8 where it will not survive winter outside but in zone 9 it survives very well.
The only way in which you can make it survive is trim it low then place a gunny bag around it and mulch it very heavily with just enough breathing room. It can make it if heavily mulched and protected this way.

4ft is large size for pot unless pot is BIG too. Since you and your daughter enjoy the flowers and you take so much trouble with fertilizing, please get a bigger pot, Change Soil A Must. While changing trim the root a bit and definetly the branches too. Now is the time though its little bit late. & Enjoy the wonderful flowers :)
