Strange, I should feel alarmed but somehow I feel like laughing at this. Yesterday News 18 had an expose’ of the groves of our esteemed academe. Now you don’t have to study over three years to get a degree. At the righjt price you can get a humanities , law or engineering degree , not fake ones mind you, but genuine ones from University Grants Commission recognized universities and colleges.!

You don’t have to attend a single day of college and stay at a safe distance from distance education but whatever degree you want pay the price accordingly and voila you are a lawyer or engineer or just a plain humanities graduate. Your name will be on the records of the university with fake joining dates and year of graduation. No fake degrees here but absolutely genuine degrees issued by genuine academic institutions.

Great! I don’t mind unqualified humanities graduates and actually welcome unqualified lawyers (They probably would cause less damage than qualified ones . Wherever qualified lawyers step In, someone or other suffers damages). But engineers?
Already buildings and bridges are collapsing at the drop of a hat. In Mumbai, the locals would probably start doubting whether they are in India’s commercial capital if a bridge or two or a building did not collapse during monsoon. If thse army of engineers come into the market every building or bridge built after their must carry a warning “BEING UNDER THIS ROOF COULD PROVE FATAL WAKING OR UNDER THIS BRIDGE COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH. Daily life will itself become a great adventure. Who is going to give a damn for adventure sport when staying in your house or walking on the road itself becomes a great adventure?

So far Medical field seems to have been spared this mortification but don’t worry, the new National Medical Council Bill passed by parliament will ensure we get such doctors too.. The bill gives a go by to inspection of quality in medical colleges and allows private medical teaching shops more leeway increasing the percentage of seats for which they can collect massive fees from 15 to 5o% (The fees were fixed by states for remaining seats).
That means if you can afford the fees you can join a medical college whether you have the qualifications for it or not. The next logical step will be these colleges will be dishing out degrees for a price regardless of whether the “doctor” had attended the college and actually studied there

Then these lines from the Old McDonald ditty “ HERE A QUACK, THERE A QUACK, EVERYWHERE A QUACK QUACK” could acquire an ominous new meaning., Hippocrates be damned.

Quacking is not new. It was there, it is there and it will be there. RMP (Registered Medical Practitioners) degrees were available in Bihar some 50 years back for a hefty (then) sum of Rs. 2000/-
There are hospitals with no faculty, there are engineering colleges with no labs or workshops.
But we must rejoice, we are not alone.
In Amrika there are no doctors in the villages. It may take 15 to 45 days to get appointment with a doctor in cities. Thankfully if one can reach hospital in time, he can be treated free in the ER.

Harij, true there have al;ways been quacks and there will always be quacks. As for RMPs and RIMPs, they still not only survive but thrive in many areas. In a market near the place where I lived until middle of last year there is even an RIMP (London).. But the quacks I am talking about are Quacks 2.0. They don't have fake degrees but genuine degrees granted by the Universities recognized by UGC. without even attending a single class! These universities for a price, prepare fake documents to show that these guys were regular students with proper attendance and completed their graduation. That is what makes them more alarming. They can get away with murder and even massacre-- fake doctors and engineers with genuine certificates To make matters worse the government has amended the law to ensure private medical colleges to mushroom without any proper authority to check the standard of education. As for US what has happened to ObamaCare? I suppose it has been replaced by TrumpIdon'tCare.

Well Sir, these are all the tangible professions.
Infact the one that immediately affects people on account of this corruption and quackery would be "Doctors and Pilots"
The biggest "quacks" also wouldn't want to fall prey to these two categories for their own lives literally!!
Given , the other professions , which have long term ramifications, and are not as discernible to the average person, may have a higher rate of return in terms of disasters unleashed on the unsuspecting population. Think a scientist .......

But , given, how this world is going, the ones who understand the consequences of "foolishness" can just worry about it!
and what is greater worry, is that since the quality has been falling, the general public seems to be sometimes supporting the ' increase in quackery' , oblivious to the themselves being 'quacked'!:hollering:

    Dear Balajee,

Having worked in the software industry, I know programmers who were recruited and didn't know how to write a line of code without help. At least, there are many with cubicles filled with so many programmers sweating their way to survive in a competitive environment. Civil, Mechanical, Chemical disciplines would be dangerous if they didn't go through rigorous classes and exams. Commercial Pilot license is a no no without so many hours of flying before the passenger plane access is given. Most physicians in practice in street corners one could never know whether they qualified or not. The hospitals are the safe bets.

Very true. Have heard of proxy examinees impersonating for the actual. There have been cases of proxy interviewees in Hyderabad impersonating for the real one during telephonic interviews for jobs or college admissions. Video interviews have eliminated some of these fakes.

True the real line between real" and "fake" is getting thinner particularly in the medical and engineering fields. Every year we see engineering marvels collapsing in Mumbai but we don't know how many people fall victim to incompetent "genuine doctors. Now with fake professionals armed with genuine certificates things are not expected to get any better. A layman cannot tell the grain from the chaff. It takes experts to apprise them. How many experts themselves are real we don't know. A bleak situation to say the least.

Viswa you are partially right. Ideally hospitals are safe... relatively that is. But an investigation last year by News 18 showed that even major corporate horspitals are negligent. The channel found out during a survey of such hospitals not only in mofussil towns like Indore but metros like Bangalore did not pay adequate attention to ER services. Many such services were actually manned by nursing staff with no doctor present. Even when dctors were there, they were not qualified to handle emergency services. So goling to a doctor is like playing Russian roulette.

    4. I HAVE READ THE NEWS IN TIMES OF INDIA that in USA fake universities sell at fancy price degrees and diplomas . IF TIME PERMITS THE LINK BELOW could be accessed where Indians in NEW JERSEY involved in duping our citizens aspiring for foreign degrees in MS OR PHD OR DOCTOR SPECIALIST.
US fake university racket: Students had no way to check Farmington's authenticity | Hyderabad News - Times of India

    5. PROBABLY EFFORTS AFOOT TO MAKE THESE CERTIFICATES DEGREES DIPLOMAS IN MEDICINE ENGINEERING ETC WOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE ONLINE THROUGH AMAZON.

    6. It was an emergency and I went to a doctor in a city in south with spouse having excruciating pain in her gum bad. It was new place to us. Some one directed us to a nearby dentist.

    • When we entered two persons from inside rush to us to take my spouse for examination. With another person I made discreet enquiries. To convince me he pointed to a framed degree certificate hung on the wall at such a height that one need to climb on a tall stool to read it.
    • I told him softly that I just would like to see it. He climbed up wiped the dust off and handed it to me. It was a certificate that doctor inside is a B.A. degree HOLDER!
    • Later I came to know “the doctor dentist” was working as assistant to some other dentist for few months or so and that he was qualified to practise as a full fledged teeth puller.
    Thanks and Regards.

God - I am told teaching a Noble profession & doctor too Noble.
