re: Herbs & their uses for healthy Hair

thanks abi for liking the tips..

If u want jet black hair colour to cover your greys then its not possible without indigo..as indigo makes a big difference while other additives make little difference in the result & give brown shades only, at the same time if you do a whole head treatment every time you henna, the color will continue to get darker and darker (browner and browner!) with time.
Wrapping the head in a towel or using a heat cap can produce a more vivid result more quickly. Remember your natural hair colour makes a big difference in the resultant hair colour.

Buy some indigo powder & see the fabulous jet black hair colour...

if u want brown colour to cover your grays.Mix henna with lemon juice, grapefruit juice, orange juice, rainwater, or other mildly acidic liquid & add Amla to henna paste, amla to henna ratio should be 1:3 and let it sit for 12 hours at 75F or 24 C. Leave the paste in your hair for at least an hour, and up to 6 hours. The longer you leave the henna in, the more dye will penetrate your hair. If you put a hair dryer on over your wrapped hennaed hair and heat it, you’ll get more stain faster. As i said earlier, continue to do this every month u'll get browner & browner shade.

As mentioned above you can slightly alter the final color outcome of the henna by adding different ingredients to the mix. Remember that the basic hue will always be some form of red, but you can push this color slightly more towards brown, golden or even redder. You can get black only by mixing henna and indigo.

To get redder results you can try one or several of these additions to your paste
    - Ground cloves
    - Grape juice (for a more bluish red)
    - Beetroot powder or juice (for a more true red)
    - Paprika powder

To get browner results you can try one or several of these additions to your paste
    - Strong black tea – gives brown to golden hues depending on the tea and your starting color
    - Strong black coffee
    - Ground coffee beans (mix with the henna powder before adding liquid)
    - Walnut powder (possible allergen - test before using!)
    - Red wine – brings final color towards chestnut

To get more golden results you can try one or several of these additions to your paste
    - Strong black tea – gives brown to golden hues depending on the tea and your starting color
    - Chamomile tea .

All these ingredients are to alter the orange colour of henna, thay are not meant for conditioning.

here's my another recipe with henna & indigo:

How to get jet black hair :
When u go for henna –indigo 2 step process then u’ll get jet black hair, with gloss & bounce, the like u get from commercial chemical dyes. Here’s the method :
Take required quantity ( i’m giving the quantities here for 100g) of henna , in a bowl.
Add 2tsp of lemon juice in it.
    1/4th cup strong brewed coffee.

    1tbspn powdered cloves .
Mix it in an iron skillet & leave it overnight in a warm place, covering with plastic wrap, next morning apply & leave it on hair for 4 hrs, put plastic & then towel on it, to keep it warm, after that wash it & air dry your hair then apply 100g indigo & water mix, & leave it on hair for another 1 hr & then rinse it with plain water & let you hair air dry & then u’ll observe naturally dark black hair which are soft, silky & glossy.
Henna works in a mildly acidic mix while indigo works in a mildly base mix. If you dye white hair with henna, you’ll get a coppery red. If you combine henna and indigo in the same mix, it will dye hair brunette (dark brown) colors. If you dye hair first with henna, rinse it out, and immediately dye over that with indigo, you will get beautiful black results & these colors are permanent.

    Dear Sweeetooooooooo chellam,
Thank you very much. Again I want to reward you bigger. I dont have more grey hairs. But unfortunately I have premature grey hairs on my fore head. Within three months they began to grow faster. Now I am very happy to follow your natural ideas on colouring. I am unable to try commercial hair dyes due to my allergic skin and scalp. So I always take care on herbal products.
    Thank you dear.

    Dear Sweeetoo,
I prepared your recipe on bringaraj. Really it worked well. For this one week I applied the oil twice. After it, as my hair is a very dry one, it became conditioned. And somehow I had slight hair fall at first time. Then the second time the oil settled for my hair texture. Thank you very much.

Interesting thread. Unfortunately a bit of misinformation. Indigo henna mix or henna are not permanent colouring esp if you have grey hair. They do wash away. To keep up the colour you have to apply once a fortnight.

Also you need to source pure indigo leaves & pure henna. A lot of the store bought ones are not pure & adulterated.

Indigo powder once made into paste has to be applied immediately.
( a family member is a trained beautician & does a lot of herbal remedies successfully. This info is from her)

You are amazing!!! Wow!!! All this information about hair is very important to almost 99% of us. I am sure your contribution will help loads of people. :bowdown

I had joined this forum in June last year but have not been on it again due to tooo much work and time. I came across the forum again and was searching for something and I came across your thread. AMAZING!!!!

I have one question to ask for now. In one of your photos it is written for soapnuts: Sapindus Trifoliatus and Sapindus Mukorosse.
I have both of these kind of soap nuts. However, I would like to know which is good for what. I use soapnuts for my laundry as well. I just put around 4-6 soapnuts in my washing machine and the clothes come out clean. They are way cheaper then using the washing liquids and very safe. They have a lot of benefits:

Environmentally friendly, Does not cause any allergic reactions, Great for baby clothes, and much more.

re: Herbs & their uses for healthy Hair

    Hi Sweeto,
Thank you so much for the great tips.I have hair fall and premature graying and i wanted to make my own oil to treat the hair.
just yesterday only i made my hair oil.I mixed 1 tbsp each of amla powder, brahmi powder, hibiscus powder and dried curry leaves powder to 1 cup of coconut oil and heated in a double boiler for 15 mins and bottled it.
I wanted to add Bringharaj powder but i couldn't find it here, they had only the ayurvedic Mahabringharaja oil.
Is this method correct? can i use bringharaj oil instead of powder in my concoction....?

Your help is very much appreciated...thanks

This thread was so helpful. I didn't realize that curry leaf was the same as neem. I'm going to bookmark this thread.
