I am expressing milk sometimes , my baby is almost a month old.

    I have 2 qyuestions

    1) if we expresses milk with pump does the milk suppy reduce as baby not sucking?

    2) how much milk should we feed 1 month old at a time.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Priyanka,
Yes, hv read somewhere tht it affects ur milk supply if you are using pump & abt feeding to ur LO, it should be atleast 10-15 mins one side....

this is based on my experience & u can google out for more details...

    Hapy motherhoood!

    Priyanka,

    1) Why are you expressing milk ? Try to latch your baby atleast once or twice a day. Only then your Milk supply will increase.
Expressing is just an option. There is a possibility of reduced supply gradually, but am not saying it will Reduce for sure.

    2) About 2oz every 2hrs.
i think its based on baby weight too.

Thanks djain and ranchu for your input.

My baby latches but sleeps after 5/10 mins so I am concerned if he is getting enough milk.

I express only once or twice a day , rest of the time I take the baby .

    @priyankna

My LO used to drink only for 5-10 minutes. If your supply is good and LO is gaining good, then this should not bea problem.

If there is no latching and only pumping, then milk supply will reduce.

As @ranchu has said the amount depends on baby's weight, feeding intervals, feeding time etc.

The following is a good article which answers basic BF questions:

Thanks ramya the article is very informative.

When I went to the 2 week's appointment for my baby he had not gained much weight but he paediatric said that babies lose weight till 10 days and gain only after that .

My lo was born at 37 weeks so was less in weight , so I am even more concerned.

I will weight for my next paediatric appointment hot confirm his weight and then take I there .

Wish me luck as I want to BF my LO.

Hi Priyanka.. I have a 3 month old right now.. She is my second one. I would certainly go by what others have said. Unless its required, pls carry on with direct feeding. Every mother has this question always in her mind "Is my baby getting enough?? " But I think babies do a great job in taking what they need. Unless suggested by your doctor, pls latch on happily. And as you said, my baby also lost a few during her first few weeks. So dont worry, your baby will do great.:thumbsup

    Cheers,
    Vidhya
