    hi grace,
quite an unusual tip...will chk the store for rock salt next time i go... :)
but as of now for idli batter i first grind the batter without salt and then add salt and mix it at the end...will try this next time....
let us know if it worked out for idli batter too... :)

    Hi Sowpar,

I'm sorry to have totally forgotten about posting it here....:hide:

Yes, the idlis came out very very good ! I was so jubilant about it my family thought why for idli she is so :bananaexcited ?? But here not a single southindian rest. is there. Only Punjabi ones where you get naan, masala gravies etc. When the tongue is literally thirsting for our homely humble idli.. only we know the difficulty :bang in getting soft , tasty idli ....that too after umpteen number of trying.

Do try out my tip, great idlis guaranteed !! By the way, this weekend also idli mayam here ... hee he heee......:tongue

    hi pebblebeach,
i too have a preethi mixie n everyone loves my dosas n idlis here!
leav ur batter in the oven with the oven light on overnight. that will help the batter ferment well.
on my recent india trip, i just got the preethi juicer jar. this has higher capacity and now i can make the whole batter in a single batch!

I do have a Preethi Blue Leaf mixer which does a good job as it has 750 watts motor, that is ideal for grinding Dosa, idli batter.
