    Hi Aparna,
I can very well understand your apprensions about a new place.
Malad has developed by leaps and bounds in recent times. It is well known for malls and BPOs.
Malad is well connected with other parts of the city

In general, Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city.People are warm and friendly.
you can find both tamilians and idly/dosa batter without any difficulty all over the city
Ofcourse, areas like Matunga and some other parts of the central line are particularly high in tamil population ,south Indian temples and especially south Indian eateries.....D

So,for weekends and special occasions like tamil new year you can visit Matunga and enjoy the SI atmosphere there.
Enjoy your short stay in Mumbai and don't forget to share your experience here. All the best.

    Hi Aparna,

I am from Mumbai (Tamil iyer ) right now in US, i have lived all my pre-married life in mumbai. Coming to your concerns..... Malad is a very well developed town with all kinds of people and culture dwelling with harmony. I bet u will love your stay with ur kids . Only thing which u will have to tolerate is the crowd ,heat and humidity which will be there till July.

U have varieties of Restaurants and eateries available at every nook and corner of Mumbai. Regarding Idli or Dosai Batter.... i am sure u will be able to get it very easily .... since its quite a rage these days in Mumbai.

As someone explained "Matunga" is considered as the Temple Town with 5 very authentic and Beautiful Temple . Since u will be visting in April there will be some celebration going on a very grand scale in "Bhajana Samaj" in Matunga which is very famous in Mumbai. Apart from that u have Mahalakshmi temple, Siddhivinayak temple, Chembur Sringeri Mutt which are a must visit temple in Mumbai.

U will also love loads of shopping at a very cheap rate as well as if u are into designer or trendy clothes.... sky will be the limit.
Also do enjoy the Alphonso mangoes in Mumbai which will be abundant in April/may.

    Enjoy ur trip.... !

    vaidehi

    Hi dear
Iam from Mumbai Andheri, now in UAE. In Malad i have lots of Tamil friends. So no probs for Idli batter and hotels.
There is a famous saibaba temple in Malad highway, pls visit on thursdays.
There is Krishna temple in Hiranandani, Powai. Very Famous becos it is Marble temple.
But for tamil new year, go to Matunga ( plan to spend full day there). Lots of temple and behind temple there is simple hotel there they serve food in banana leaf with dal + ghee to payasam.
Lovely jasmine flowers you get there also...
In Matunga ( there are two Matungas are there - one in western railway side and other is in central railway side and you have go to central railway Matunga only) you feel so homely and you can hear lots of tamil and malayalam.

Bargain a little in all shops pls.
Visit Mumba devi temple also. It is suyambu temple and very nice.
Visit Mahalaxmi temple at early morning - it is very very nice.

Shopping = go to Dadar or Andheri west.

There is a moving theatre in mUmbai ( Quiet far from city) and Visit Fantasy land in Jogeshwari and andheri highway for kids...
    Have a nice time
I have my inlaws in Mumbai.
    Love
    Mrs.Naresh
