Heart attack & coronary bypass surgery Facts

    I wud like to share some useful knowledge abt heart attack & bypass surgery
    Heart attack is the condition due to lack of oxygen to heart muscles which becomes dead.This lack occuars due to blockage in coronary arteries which is due to deposiiton of plaques formed of cholestrol & platlets mostly & cut down the blood supply to heart muscles.
    The block may be in single vessel or multiple like two or three .
    Now a days in acute heart attack treatment is immediate angioplasty or dissolving of clot by medication ( in injection for )
    Angioplasty is the term used when the blocked arteries are open up by putting a catheter ( hollow tube ) through leg artey guided in blocked artery by direct visulization on Tv screen & then by very small microscopic rotter blades cutting of block & clearing the blocked artery within few hours of attack & thus preventing the heart muscle to get damaged permanently.
    This is followed by medical treatment.
    But this is like clearing the choked pipe we do in kitchen but to keep it patent w have to stop things which wud block it again. This is by changing life style -
    reducing anxiety & stress.
    Change in food habits eating lots of fresh fruits & saalds ,high fiber diet & stopping smoking ,excessive consumption of alcohal .
    Daily walking briskly for atleat 45 mts.
    control of blood sugar & cholestrol levels .
    Reducing wt if overwt or obese.
    Daily yoga definately helps in prevention of reurrence of problam.

    coronary bypass surgery - is open heart surgery now a days done on beating heart without help of heart lung bypass machine . In this the blocked artery is removed & grafted with artery taken from hand or leg veins preferabbly artey & not veins as veins get reblocked earlier )
    This mat be done if two or multiple blocks are present at multople level &angioplasty is not pssible ( angioplasty is done on single or two vessels )
    After coronary bypass similar life style modifictions r necessary & one can lead a very normal life.
    Generally these surgeries are very safe in good centre in expert hands.

    Actually to prevent heart diseses we have to take measures from childhood.
    Todays society is livng in abundence of every thing & lack of physical work & exercise leads to obesity & fatty children & adolecence with the high intake of junk foods & fast foods we r risking the future of our kids.
    with increasing sitting work ,chips & cold drinks & pizzas kids r having more risk of problams in later life.
    To prevent this encourage kids to take outdoor activities & participate in games.
    Mothers shud encourage them to eat helathy foods like fresh fruits .High fibre diet with lots of salads & vegetables. These food habits shud be incalcated right from childhood so that they last life time.

    hi jaishree,

    It is true...in our home we follow strict rules..my son gets irritated..my husband gets tired of my nagging...but i am more aware of it as mil died of heart and renal diseases along with diabetes..and my dad is also a heart patient....i am also one...from the age of 32...so what my kids to follow certain regimes...we cannot avoid if it is there in thier genes but we can atleast try to control it with all the things we know...diet,exercise and control.:2thumbsup:

    This is really the crux of the things that exercise ,diet & wt control can prevent many chronic illnesses like heart & diabetes & high BLood pressure.
    Actually gentically we indians have narrow coronary arteries ( the vessels supplying to heart than cacasssians ) So we r at greater risk from rather young age & now a days very young poeple in thier prime r suffering from heart diseases. To prevent it certain useful tips are

    1 Walk briskly atleast 30 mts daily .

    2 Know ur blood pressure & try to keep it at 120 /75- 80 by diet ,medication or exercises or yoga whatever is suitable & advised by doctor.

    3 Eat 30 - 40 gms or a fistful of nut daily like almonds ,wall nuts ,pistacho they are very good in omega 3 acids which is very good in raising good cholestrol.

    4 Eat fresh tomatoes daily & banana they r rich source of potassium which is protective to heart.

    5floss ur teeth regularly.

    6 Eat no more than 20 gms of fat ( oil & ghee )

    7 It is better to use musturd oil /cornoil or safflower oil.

    8 Eat several servings of colorful fruits & vegetables.Make them SATRANGI.
    Relaxation is as well as essential

    10 If non veg eat more of fish then redmeat.
