    Dear @periamma,

Your posts always make me nostalgic about Tirunelveli!

Ah! your Pongal pictures and the mention of Sirukilangu Pongal took me back to Tirunelveli and those dreamy young days!

The Sirukilangu of Tirunelveli has a beautiful, soft, mild fragrance of earth! I have never tasted it in any other kilangu, even in karunai kilangu ( pidikarunai ). IMG_1378.jpg IMG_1406.jpg IMG_1368.jpg

As you have done Pongal Panai(pot) is to be heated only with dried palm leaves! I am surprised you can still get them in Tirunelveli city!

Your post inspires me to share my Last year (2014)Pongal pictures when we were in India in my parents house who celebrate the Pongal in the true Tirunelveli traditional way as you do. I am sharing those pictures.

i would like to share my first attempt in doing ponggal all by myself. MIL was at bil's house. so my dh and i make made the arrangement to tie mango leaves, sugar canes and also thoranai as what we used to do with pils.
with PILs, we will have ponggal at the car porch. but this year, since its on small scale, i decided to cook on the gas stove in the kitchen.
    HAPPY PONGGAL TO ALL
