H4 to H1 conversion...plz help

    Hi,
    I was on H1b till July 2009 but was job less for 1yr (from july 2008 to july 2009). so i had to go back and got H4 stamped. Am now in US with H4 status. I want to go for a conversion from H4 to H1b. Is it possible to do now? When i asked my previous employer, he said i need a employee letter for the conversion.

    I do no understand, unless i do a job i will not get a employee letter... then how can i apply for conversion?
    Should i have to apply for a fress h1 quota?

    Kindly suggest.

    I also want to know if anyone here was able to trasfer their status from h1 to h4 and then h4 to to h1 again.

    I was working till oct 2009 on my h1b. I took break for 6 months and change my status to h4. Now i want to start working again. Can i use same h1b on which i was working till october last year? Or do i need to apply for new h1b visa from quota? Some employers say they can not use old h1 and some are okay to use same h1b. I am confused :spin

    anyone here has any idea on this?
