On Friday, September 19th, President Donald Trump signed an executive action during a livestream event announcing his intention to implement a $100,000 application fee for first-time H-1B visa applicants. The Proclamation directs the Department of Homeland Security to not approve H-1B petitions for people outside of the United States, unless this $100,000 payment has been made. It also directs the Department of State to limit issuance of B visas to people who have approved H-1B petitions. Its not clear about H1 renewals though. The new fee comes amid a debate over the H-1B visa, which some critics say enables companies to hire foreign applicants at lower salaries than American workers. Some employers also award H-1Bs for entry-level roles rather than for senior positions with greater skill requirements, detractors of the program say. Tech companies have been among the primary beneficiaries of the visa program. Amazon received the most H1-B visas of any business in 2024, Department of Labor data shows. This year, the online retailer remains the leading recipient of the visas, with more than 10,000 awarded, followed by Tata Consultancy, Microsoft, Apple and Google. "This will ensure that the people they're bringing in are actually very highly skilled and that they're not replaceable by American workers. So it'll protect American workers, but ensure that companies have a pathway to hire truly extraordinary people and bring them to the United States," a White House aide said. Locals are happy with it saying American jobs for Americans. We have to wait and see how this new change works out. But it's going to be a blow for H1 b Indians. What are your thoughts on this new order?
Indians are safer in India. Will be a blessing in disguise for some. For others who have citizenship, a good time to wisen up and move. You are living a stranger's land and will need to leave some day. Leave on your own terms and you will be able to take some of your earnings back and convert it into something back in India. For others lesser Indian stores, events, more loneliness. President AOC will give you temporary relief.
I recd the following message in my WhatsApp. Copy as recd. Microsoft’s message IMPORTANT ADVISORY: New travel restriction for H-1B visa holders Hi all--We have now reviewed the actual text of today's Presidential Proclamation on H-1B visas, which you can find here: Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers – The White House. Here's what you need to know: First, the proclamation is structured as a travel restriction. Beginning at 12:01 am eastern time on September 21, 2025 (so, 9:01 pm Pacific time tomorrow), individuals will not be able to enter/return to the U.S. in H-1B status unless their petition has an additional $100,000 payment associated with it. What you need to do: • If you are in H-1B status and are in the U.S., you should remain in the U.S. for the foreseeable future. We know this may interrupt your travel plans. But the critical thing is to stay in the U.S. in order to avoid being denied reentry. • While the proclamation doesn't reference H-4 dependents, we also recommend that H-4s remain in the U.S. • If you are in H-1B or H-4 status and are currently outside the U.S., we strongly recommend that you do what you can to return to the U.S. tomorrow before the deadline. The Proclamation was released within the last 30 minutes, so we realize that there isn't much time to make sudden travel arrangements. But again, we strongly encourage you to do your best to return. I will be updating this post later this evening with a form for people to fill out if they are currently outside the U.S. with an H-1B visa. We want to be able to follow up with each individual and provide support and guidance as they try to return within the next 28 hours. The proclamation does not impact any other visa statuses. There is other content about the pause in processing H-1B petitions for individuals who are outside the U.S. At this time, we do not interpret this to immediately impact extensions of H-1B status or changes of status to H-1B as long as you are currently in the U.S. We'll share more about that later. I know these developments are creating anxiety and uncertainty for many of you. While we don't have all of the answers right now, we ask that you prioritize the recommendations above.
They have clarified that this will apply to new H1Bs and should not affect reentry for existing visa holders.
Thanks Sir. If I understand it correct 100,000 USD for 1 person H1B visa fees which is ~80 Laks Indian Rupees? Who would want to spend that much money, instead a good apartment in metro or house in second tire city can be bought. Once own a house in India other expenses are manageable!
