Well Quebec....how thoroughly condescending in your posting to this thread and how thoroughly helpful to point out to dumb women how to report abuse. This is exactly the flippant attitude that is the basis of male abuse of women.

I second Sokanasana, you should consider the content of the message and the intent behind it before getting offended. But in your case it seems like someone is really being a bad apple. Also, i think if someone's response to a 'personal thread' is helping the op in any way, it should really not matter if the responder is male or female. For example, what if a man who is participating in a TTC thread has (with his wife) lived through problems similar to op's and has valuable information on the same? Generalization is almost always incorrect.

 

Are certain 'specialist' doctors permitted to reply?

 

I used to be one of the most ardent supporters of increased participation of males in IL. In fact, I even objected strenuously to the idea that males should be held to a higher standard, because double standards (even well intentioned ones) always strike me as ethically dubious.

The events/posts of the last few weeks has caused a drastic change in my attitude. With the exception of a few male members here who are consistently coherent, compassionate, and knowledgeable (Soka and Viswa come to mind, and no, this does not mean that I always agree with them - it just means that they know how to present differing views in a civilized fashion), I am no longer convinced that generally, males who join IL do so for the right reasons.

It must be exhausting to have to fight on IL the same battles that many women who come here for help are also fighting in real life. Often, these misogynistic and juvenile (and in some cases, highly offensive) views are presented as just "an effort to help", or to "present a different viewpoint" (as if us feeble-minded women are unable to independently consider different viewpoints in our own thimble-sized brains).

It is very easy to tell the difference between genuine, well-intentioned male participants and those who are immature, intent on making trouble, and determined to have a bit of fun at the expense of serious posters here. Unfortunately, it is not as easy to ignore such maladjusted miscreants.

How nice if we could rely on people to behave in responsible, socially acceptable, age-appropriate ways, even if this is the internet, and even if it is anonymous. I take my hat off to every female member I have interacted with here; members who have never disturbed me to this extent, no matter how vociferously we have disagreed. And I wonder at the persistent and dedicated troublemakers (excuse me, I mean the ones "who are just presenting an alternate view for the sake of helping us one-track-mind females") - what kind of a life are you living that this, THIS, passes for sport?

 

Interesting how all of a sudden one thread is flooded with male posters. What could be the reason?

 

Maybe, to tacitly say that 'i am not that trouble-maker?'

By the way, why are all these names hush hush, call them out openly. It will also give them a chance to put forward an explanation if any.
