I'm a non-indian, living in NC in the US. I have been traveling to mumbai regularly this year for business. I have met a girl through shaadi, and we've hit it off quite well... I have even met her family. As an American I want to take time with this relationship but still need to prepare in hopes we get married. I have been telling her about things in the US that she has not idea about... some common differences I am aware of. Such as: - American relationships typically last several years before proposal - Americans use toilet paper, we don't wash with a sprinkler or use a cup of water - We drive on the right side of the road and within the correct lane, and don't constantly use the horn - Houses are made of wood, not concrete, and consequently the bathroom doesn't have a drain in the floor, so don't pour water on it! - In urban areas we don't hang out our clothes, we use a dryer - Everyone drives themselves, we all own a car, we don't rely on cabs and autos (although we do have buses and in large cities there are taxis) - Except for in large cities, homes are built separate and separated by land, most of us have some kind of size of yard to tend to Simple stuff, but she didn't realize. She does want to move to the US or UK so I'd like her to learn more about the differences. As an American I take most of this for granted, so I'm sure there is a whole lot that will surprise her. Can you give me advice on what to tell her? Are there any good books written for Indians wanting to move to the US?
