I am from North of India and small town and we did not have many shipping services. But lately there are many opening. But I do not have any first hand experience from friends or family using them. About 10 Years ago, mother sent a small courier ( few clothes and one religious expensive jewelry with insurance and not recovered and blamed to US courier) and it was lost. I myself have sent rakhi etc many times and lost. Now, I want to get a suitcase full of clothes shipped. My parents checked many services. Some are suggesting 20K Rs and some under 10K which is surprising difference. ~No one talked about insurance ~ they said we will have to pay customs. ~ Some said (Expensive ones), we will have to fetch it from airport here. Cheaper one said, it will arrive at home. It is just bag full of new clothes, and indian traditional clothes. Any experiences.
Garudavega is a reputable courier. My parents have also used DHL to send clothes. They sent a parcel in March literally the day before lockdown started, with fancy Indian outfits for my baby and it reached smoothly to my home in 1 week. They may have inspected it at customs but I did not have to pay anything. Find out what their policies are now. A lot of international shipments are being very delayed due to Covid.
Can i ask how much did it cost per kgs? For us, it is whole big travel suitcase which has its own weight.
I’m sorry I don’t know the price and I don’t think they remember. It was a large cardboard carton but not as heavy as a suitcase. If you look on the Garudavega website they have a shipping calculator. Have they also checked with their local post office for international speed post? I sent myself a carton of clothes once from India instead of paying excess baggage in flight. It was about Rs.6000 for 1 large box. The Indian post will deliver to your local post office. Then either the US post office will bring it to your house or ask you to come and collect it.
I usually get package of min 20kgs through Fedex which will reach here in 4days, it was 500rs/kg before but due to pandemic it costed 700rs/kg for above 10kgs
oh i misread malstorm's post so i deleted/edited. I thought she sent from US to India one large box in 6000 Rs, thats great deal. But re-read to find out opposite.
My ILs sent two boxes three months back through DHL . They have been using DHL, Garudvega , fedex without any issues so far. my aunt sent me a small carton with baby clothes and eatables through fedex from a small town in india. I think fedex comes to your home in india and packs the stuff and takes it with them at some places. All came on time without any damages. I am not sure if you can let go of the suitcase and get just the stuff shipped in big cardboard boxes. Those suitcases itself weigh more than 10lbs sometimes. Charge was roughly more than 500rs per kg.
Over a period of the last few years, my mom, MIL have sent big box weight around 15-20 kgs. It always comes round Rs10,000. I haven't paid any duty on these. I have received kollu dolls, clothes, grain powders, and eatables as well. Garudavega is the one my mom used.
