Gawd! the things people do on FB and YouTube just to get noticed!
Today I ran into am FB video in Tamil, in which believe it or not, a lady fives a long explanation on why papads can't be fried in water! With a visual demonstration, of course, in which pappads dropped in oil get crisp and the one dropped in water soggy.

So now if you have any idea of saving oil by frying papads in water, just give it up. Nature has ensured that people in the cooking oil industry don't starve by not endowing water with frying power. Imagine how many people will become jobless if your frying source flows from your tap or can be found in lakes, rivers and seas?

But frankly why doesn't some inventor try to invent a water fryer like the air fryer.? At least that will put an end to nonsensical videos in which self-appointed experts try to convince a naive population that papads cannot be fried in water?

But in the ultra modern world there is alway an alternate is produced . From tools made of stone several centuries ago, now we hv tools made of high speed steel and other superior metals. Devices turn more sophisticated and or modified with enhanced efficacy and efficiency. A day might come that frying indeed without oil and roasting without fire.
I agree that we are flooded with fake news, videos, messages and visuals generated with help of AI .

It is becoming increasingly difficult to find wheat from chaff. I hv stopped as a routine browsing face book. I learnt to reject and or stuff delete only by the stupid attractive hints that cause the reader to turn inquisitive or curious!
But then I can't reject sriman Balaji 's post which now
    -a-days seldom appear in IL!

Thyagu sir, true. As foor grain and chaff, I look for chaff in the FB. That is often more amusing than the grain. Facebook contents shoulf never be taken at their face value.

    Dear Balajee,

I enjoy reading your post after a long time. Yes. There are many videos in Facebook that are fake and not truthful. I am being a big fan of cricket, I will look for Facebook posts that talks of Indian cricket. There are number of posts that tells that some of the team members of T20 world cup team to be sent home and replaced with a new players. All of these are fake news. One person posted a video where he was cooking chicken using solar heat. He has built an antenna in his top floor filled with mirrors that reflect sunlight. Then he built a steel structure that looks like our old Aduppu. He kept a frying pan on top of it and poured oil and fried chicken in less than 2 minutes. Even though everything looked believable, he was standing on top of a chair to reach this frying pan and it is not practical for anyone to use it.

Viswa I thought only politicians and parties were at the receiving end of fake internet propaganda, Cricketers too!I think FB is just the place where idle minds act as Devil's workshops to churn out things just m to get attention. It is limelight and boredom alleviation at any cost. Truth be damned. But What I talked about is not fake. This lady actually explained patiently hat appalams cannot be friws in water and why> A most knowledge imparting video, I must say.

There is a lot of fakes on social media. We have to use our common sense. For example, I never try any medical suggestion. I trust my doctor.

The medical and fitness advice on social media can be lethal. Like frying in water, I ran into a gem on fitness on internet which says the best way to lose weight is to eat a lot. How come? The logic of the ,person who posted it is eating itself is a real hard exercise as you burn more calories digesting the food you have consumed than the calories in that food! Does it make your head spin? It did mine.

FRying papads in micro oven is reasonably good. It is some way bet sutta appalam and poriththa appalam. Especially vadaams made of rice and sago are good. When children want snacks they enjoy these.

We can give to kids not worrying about frying harms.

In my house weonly microwave the papads . You can either microwave them dry or brush both sides slightly with oil that gives a s slightly fried effect.

In response to a query about i-phone that has fallen into a bucketful of water, some one suggested in the net to Wrap it in piece of cloth and steam cook in a pressure cooker.
