    Dear Chithra,
Like the earlier posts, this is also very lucid. You have brought many thoughts which i could have never thought of, making it so easy to understand ,think & then ponder over.
Yet another thoughtful post about anatma.Gita may sound easy to read, but to understand the substance and implementing is all the deal about.Easier said than done...But we all are making an effective attempt to follow atleast 1% of what has to be done.

    Thankyou Chithra!

    Dear Chith

You have explained it well. So we are here for a short visit. We do not remember from where we came and are not sure of the place we need to go. So what is the need to worry about the things that we do not have control over. But what ever it is we are so associated with the body that at times it is very difficult to accept and realise these things.

    Love
    Vidhi

    Dear Aishu Baby,
Thanks for being so regular in reading & sending FBs.
If we read Gita on our own we will tend to give our own interpretations ! They need not necessarily be right.
It does convey us the harsh, but practical truths of life !
    Love,
    Chithra.

    Dear Vidhi,
    You are right !
We are here on a short, flying visit. The duration is decided by the prarabdha karma allotted for this janma !
In spite of knowing it, we cannot accept it. That is the irony of our existence !
    Love,
    Chithra.

    My dear Chithra..

Your wonderful post reminds me of Shakespeare's poem

    All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
    They have their exits and their entrances;

How true when you said that we are just in the middle phase of our being.....why should one grieve for an end that is sure to come !!

Also, taking a cue from your words on obsequies, perhaps, this is why our ancestors devised a formal 'farewell' system with procedures and rituals - so as to ensure smooth passage to the 'next phase' and also to perhaps 'distract' our minds from the sorrow of the death of someone close.

Waiting for more from you, while I contemplate more on your thought-provoking posts.

    With lots of love
    Pavithra

When we had to perform the last rites of my inlaws both times the priest told us why we did what we did for 12 days .. They told us about the pretha and thats how I am familiar with the word.
In a English book I read some time back it mentioned of the shock the body and soul feels and undergoes when life as we know has ended.
A book of Sri Ramana that I am reading now explains in his own words of his experience with his mothers death how he kept his hand on her heart area even after passing as he explains the need for the soul to reach its final resting place.
Thanks for writing and for discussing.

    Dear Pavithra,
You think of Shakespeare - I like Kannadasan's words

How relevant to life, these songs are!
Yes, obsequies do give a lot of relief to both the deceased & bereaved according to our shastras.
Thanks for your nice words, Pavithra.
    Love,
    Chithra.

    Dear AC,
    For a 60+, 40+ is young !
Ruby is married for 24 yrs like you & indhu. So, I can guess your age roughly.
That apart, vedanta is not everybody's cup of tea.
That is why I appreciate you.
But at this age, family comes first, vedanta should take a second seat, but not a very back seat.
    Love,
    Chithra.
