He did not have empathy when his wife lost her father. It was still about him. He threw a tantrum about his problem while people around were greiving a person.

I dont think just an unpleasant person would do this.

But I do see OPs problem as two fold... his high horse and her low confidence.

Narcissistic personality disorder ( NPD) can be assessed only by a specialist.There are different types of NPD. There are also people with narcistic traits but no NPD. But we can't say all bad people are narcistic. Need to educate ourselves about. But most of the time severe controlling behavior, no boundaries, has lighting plus selfish attitude etc are considered as traits of narcistic person.

We dont know whether he has NPD or not, or has any other mental issues, but he is not a good husband. He simply use her for his needs. There is no empathy, sincerity , compassion or love according to her. He has been emotionally abusing her. She is attached to him like a victim with stockhome syndrome, who can not see the reality.

Thus, OP has so much codependency' and is not able to think well. She is an empath. So 'No contact' is the best option to get clarity. She only can decide what's best for her.

Mental health and its diagnosis has a long way to go at home (India). One needs to be vigilant. Just because the Ops husband has been called a narc here wont make him one; the same way it wont make him genuine because he didnt get dignosed.

But I do get the point that narc should not be used loosely like the word 'depression' and I agree.

Traits give heavy clues; diagnosis or not.
