Pradeep was confused. "How can you explain friction to a seventh grade girl in simple terms? And then you need to explain the plus and minus effiects of it. I am no physics major!", he said to himself. His wife Sita was smiling while his daughter Supraja was earnestly looking at him for an answer.

He was the one who encouraged Supraja to ask lot of questions. But it still was hard for him to accept that he did not know the answer at times. And Sita was there to pull his leg if he tried to dodge. He already knew what she would say, if he said that his line was only accounts. "Come on! This is such a basic thing and you don't need to have a physics degree!", she would say. And his daughter always asked more questions from him. He said, "Supraja dear! Why can't we talk about this tomorrow? Meanwhile, you can go ahead and read what is there in the book!", he paused. She half-heartedly left.

Sita could not contain herself any longer and burst out laughing. Supraja was reading aloud in the next room - "Friction is the action of one surface or object forcing against another!". "What makes you laugh, Sita? If you know the god damn answer, why can't you just say it to her? After a hectic day in the office, I need to face this!", he exploded. She got angry too and there was an exchange of words sharp enough to wound more. He quoted that she was showing off her better education and she, about his ego.

Supraja was reading - "Friction causes heat that damages...".

    Dear RGS,

Hahaha. The father is answering in action instead of in words. Perhaps, mother thought it would be easier for her daughter to know it through practical experience than words from father and hence asked the right question to the father. Interesting :)

I agree with Viswa sir that maybe, the young girl was reading the meaning and effect of Friction and the adult were practising the friction. :)

:) If only she understood that practical lesson, there would always be a lesser friction between them. Right? Thanks Anuradha, for your feedback. -rgs
