Dubai: Hospitals and clinics across the emirate will provide free check-ups on Saturday to mark World Heart Day so people can become aware of the dangers of heart disease and take measures. The check-ups will be at 10 locations on September 29 and include free assessments which include random blood cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements. Heart disease is the number one killer in the UAE and the risk factors include obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and lack of exercise. Dr Pietie Loubser, chief clinical officer, EHL group, said: “Many people either claim not to be aware of the risk factors or simply ignore their symptoms. The only way we can help reduce the number of deaths is by making people more aware of their cardiac health status.” The theme of this year’s World Heart Day is the prevention of cardiovascular disease among women and children.
