I feel like this might be a controversial thread, but I still felt like putting it out there. For all those born again singletons (aka. Separated or divorced individuals), what are the most surprising benefits of being single again? There are naturally, a lot of hardships, but there is also something that makes all the trouble worth it.

    I will share mine...
    - no need to cook daily, and being able to manage with leftovers
    - easier to plan a busy weekend without having an uncooperative spouse hindering the process
    - being able to talk to my cousins and friends after work hours

The intention of this thread is to be more uplifting to those who are separated and feeling depressed about it during the festival season.

Why do you think it's going to be a controversial thread? I don't think so, IMO this thread is going to boost the confidence in many single ladies.

Good thread @BhumiBabe , you are trying to show the positive side of being single....nice effort.

Some people have a deep seated belief that being separated or divorced should feel miserable and that they are punished for some imaginary sins (karma). If only we can take this life change as a positive experience, I am sure there is a good fulfilling things waiting for us.

@BhumiBabe Hope I can find the clip where Kareena interviewed Malaika Arora recently on exact same topic and she asks the same questions as you. I thought Malaika's answers were fantastic. She handled it all so well, without any animosity whatsover. I felt like it was too good to be true and watched it again back to back. She convinces you that D need not be a bad thing at all. As @kcb rightly said this thread too has the same positive vibes. Thanks for triggering the conversation.

Oh boy, interesting thread.. I have had the most happening year ever in my life since getting a divorce. so many good things about being single

    - Solo travel! Wouldn't have considered solo travel if I was still married.I did a long solo trip and it was the best thing ever. So liberating to decide everything on your own and you feel so much more confident afterwards.

    - Taken multiple trips a year without feeling like someone is disapproving of my spending habits...

    - I shared an apartment(with a great view as a bonus) with an amazing group of strangers who have become very good friends.. Again this wouldn't have happened if I was still married,

-This one is probably my favorite, I dont need to be part of social groups formed by community /caste. As a couple I was part of a few groups , had to drag myself to potlucks and such , and being around people I had no connection to. It sucked my energy to go to all these functions I had no interest in..

    - Dating. This ones a mixed bag, I have met some real assholes , but aside that, it feels good when you meet someone new and have a good date.

-Closer bond with my single girlfriends. I am one of them now, we have the same concerns, schedule, interests, sleepovers and I have ended up having great times with them.

    - Can keep dreaming of finding the perfect person, after all nothing to hold back now if that person is also single:)

Omg, I love this. I’m glad you are experiencing such amazing things this year. I’ve experienced some of these too, while others I’m looking forward for in the future.

To have been there and done it -- does indeed give a special appreciation for the situation. Nice thread. It might poke out more thoughts than you had wanted.
This list can easily go long.... with contributions from those who enjoy domestic felicity.
    e.g...
    - not having to mix your laundry (especially the "unmentionables") with his
    - no snoring, or kicking you out of sweet dreams
    - TV on, some sportscaster yelling, with no one watching
    - "round heels" on demand, headache or not.
    - being stood up without good excuses
I had gone to see the movie "Paheli" with an american gf. We were impressed by the colorful trailer, songs, dances etc.... After the movie she wanted to know if it is normal for the newly wed bridegroom to be sent off on some business prospects. I could only surmise that there could be modern versions of it. Like a poor tradesman getting married, and then going off to the middle east to make a living, and send money home (to Kerala). In the meantime, the wife would be married-yet-single. And enjoy the benefits of that oriental proverb "A good husband is one who is healthy and absent".

:hello:M is quite bold in this interview and she has no qualms about any of those questions asked and unasked by K.
I enjoyed this video. The sum and substance is that even after separation cordiality is maintained with dignity if a child is there. M is down to earth and candid.
    Thanks to @Lalithambigai
