Special Spinach and Potato Puree

Special Spinach and Potato Puree

This puree makes a tasty introdution to spinah for your baby. It also makes a nice vegetable side dish for adults.

1 onion, peeled & finely chopped 1 large or 2 small potatoes, peeled & diced
25g(1oz) margarine 120ml(4floz) chicken stock
or vegetable stock
225g(8oz) spinach, washed, chopped & stalks removed

Saute the onion in the margarine or olive oil over a low heat for 4-5 minutes until soft. Add the spinach and potato, pour in the stock and simmer slowly for about 35 minutes. Puree in a blender.

hi ladies ,
here is a recipe for baby aswell as old people ,(age doesn't mind here...)
kanji /sathu mamvu drink:

ingredients:
1.boiled rice ---1/2 kg
2.wheat ---1/2kg
3.sabudana --1/4 kg
4 .dhalia /chtney kadalai / pottukadalai ---200gms
5. ragi ---1/2 kg
6.cashew --100g
7.badam--100g
8.ajwain --50g////or elaichi ---10gms .

optional ingredients:
bajra -500gms.
jowar --200 gms.
moong dhal --250gms( storage time is short).

procedure :
1.take each individual item and roast it in a hot tawa , without adding oil.
boiled rice should turn light red color, sabudana will get big in size when it is roasted (it makes some sound also, just like ragi ,while roasting).you can leave ajwain in the hot tawa after switching off the gas / taking away from the flame for just a few
seconds .elaichi will break open while roasting.
2. then in india , u can outsource the grinding process to a nearby attachakli /maavu arakkium machine , (where we make wheat
flour out of wheat ,murukku maavu arrakkum machine ....)
3. then sieve and store the nicely powdered kanji flour in an air tight box.

procedure to use:
1.take 1 big spoon of kanji flour ,mix it with water , prepare a smooth semi solid state liquid.
2. boil 2cups of water in avessel.
3. while water boils , add and stir the kanji liquid u've prepared into it.
4. stir continuosly , and let it comes up , stop the flame.
5. for babies ,after 5 months , u can make a cerealac type paste with the above method ,and give them by adding sugar /
jaggery ( better if u add them with the boiling water).
6. for toddlers and kids , u can add milk / water to that , to make a drink.
7. instead of water to boil , u can use milk .

In usa ,
except boiled rice , sabudana , pottukalai , we can get each of the ingredients in powdered packets.be careful while making
a slight roasting them in a hot tawa.

tips:
1.for babies , u can sprout ragi ,and then roast .but make sure it's a very well roasted ..(storage period will be less for
sprouted ones ...)
2.the quantity i've given ,will be sufficient for 2months , depending on good roasting and airtight storage.time required to prepare kanji flour less than 2 hrs , and make kanji drink __10 mts .:2thumbsup:
3.some kids /elders love salty taste than sweet taste , u can salt to it instead of sugar.
4.add butter milk to it instead of milk.they can have it as a healthy drink .
5.even we ladies can have this , since it is rich in calcium ,iron ,fiber and minerals.

regards,
harini

Re: Diet for Babies Under 1 year

Spinach Rice ( 9 months plus)

1 tbsp oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic

pinch of asfotadie ( LG powder)
pinch of salt.

Heat oil. Add garlic and onions. Cook onions till transparent. Add chopped spinach. Add salt and asfotadie. Cook till raw taste of spinach goes away. Turn off heat and add cooked rice till all of rice is coated with spinach mix. Puree to right consistency for babies or serve as it is for toddlers.

Re: diet for my 9 months old baby

You can try giving rice and daal (moong daal is easier to digest), well mashed, mixed with mashed veggies with a dollop of ghee. Avoide heavy spices. You can change vegetables for variety, but give enough time between changing veggies to check if there is any allergy/reaction to that.
