Rakhii, is butternut squash yellow pumpkin (parangikkai in Tamil)? Good to see a recipe with broccoli. My DD doesn't like plain steamed broccoli (I hate it too!).

No butternut squash is Kalyana Poosannikai, the sweet pumpkin. It's a very hit vege with kids :)

Broccoli, instead of steaming, stir fry it. Kids love them !!!

    Hi janaki,
Ragi is very ideal during summer because its considered a 'cool' food and cools the body. I have been giving my DS ragi almost every day since he turned 5 months. I don't give it when he has cold or when its raining outside.

CM, my dd doesnt like the onions per se but she didnt dislike it either. Try the leeks, it has more subtle flavor compared to onion.
Karanu, I am not sure of the Tamil name but here is the picture. Oh ya, this is the best way to give broccli as the sweetness of squash and carrots cover up the lack of taste in broccoli, still maintaining a flavor. Also attaching the picture of the finished product. you will need to mash/puree according to baby's intake.

    Mango and Avocado Puree

I cannot believe that I haven't tried this all these days! Avocado and mango purée is so yum that I decided today that I will make this as a dip for us (hubby and I) as well.

The richness of the avocado went perfectly well with mango.

    You will need:
Mango: 1, choose a sweet ripe one
Avocado: 1, choose the one which is ready to be eaten today or tomorrow

    Method:
Peel the mango and cut into cubes. Take the avocado pulp out. Place both of them in a blender and puree until desired smoothness.

I have been meaning to give this to DD for a long time now. Since fall is almost on its way, I thought it high time I give this to her so that when fall is truly here, I can make things like pumpkin soup etc.

There is a special twist to this; I specially added this for the benefit of my friends daughter. She likes her food sweet and hence this special dish to pacify her sweet tooth.

    You will need:
Apples: 1 cup (approx 1 apple)
Pumpkin: fresh or canned pie pumpkin, 1/2 cup. You can also use pie pumpkin purée
    Vanilla essence: 1/2 tsp
Cinnamon: 1/4 tsp (you can reduce this if you want)
Apple juice: 1/2 cup (to make it sweeter)

    Method:
Peel and core the apples and cut into small pieces
Peel and chop the pumpkin into small pieces. If you are using canned or frozen, that's fine too. I used pie pumpkin pulp.
Place apples and pumpkin in a sauce pan and add vanilla essence, cinnamon and apple juice.
Cook on medium flame; stir occasionally until apples are properly cooked. Take about 20 minutes
    Cool and purée
