    Dear Ilites,
Mrs. Mallika badrinath gave various recipies for babies in her TV show-unavum oottamum in DD Podhigai a year ago. If anyone of you have those recipies, please post the same here. I am planning to start with solids for my baby and he is four months now.

    Thanks in advance

boil greenbeans for 30mins on low.mash and put it in a bowl. let baby play with it and eat some off his fingers. You can do that to all the foods without salt. beans squash sweet potato white potato rice.. and when he tastes it by himself he will take it when you feed it to him too.

    Hi Aarthi
If your baby is not allergic to milk and if you had previously given cows milk then you can but I suggest you better ask your paed first before introducing new food...

    Upma for beginners:

My daughter just turned 8 months and I have introduced upma for her. Sooji is an essential ingredient when it comes to carbs. There are several ways to introduce this. I chose the below method as my daughter is texture sensitive and this is the first time I gave anything to her in non-puréed form.

    Recipe:
    Sooji: 1/8 cup
    Water: 1.5 cups
Onion: 2 sambar onions or 1/4 regular onion. Chop this very fine
Baby carrots: 3, grated. Or 1/4 regular carrot, grated
Ripe tomato: 1/4, chopped into very small pieces
    Mustard seeds: 4
    Cumin: 4
    Ghee: 1 tbsp
    Salt: a pinch

    Method:
Roast the Sooji for a few minutes and keep it aside
Heat ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
Now add onions and fry until translucent.
Now add the carrots and tomatoes and fry until carrots start to change color (about 5 minutes)
    Add salt
Add water and bring to a boil
Add Sooji slowly, while giving it a stir with the other hand.
Continue to stir until Sooji is cooked
Remove from heat while upma is still a little soft. Something like dosa batter consistency.
Since this was the first time, I made it in this consistency. You can also make it thicker.

    Squashed vegetables:
This can be given to a baby as long as she has been introduced to the vegetables separately. It's very tasty! I tried the left overs from Dd's bowl and loved it.

    Ingredients:
Butternut squash(you can use any squash): 1 cup
    Carrots: 1/2 cup
    Broccoli: 1/2 cup
    Orange/apple juice: 1/4 cup
    Water: to boil the veggies
    Salt: a pinch, optional

    Method:
Peel the carrots and squash. Cut the carrots, squash and broccoli into small pieces.
Boil the vegetables in water until tender; about 25-30 minutes in medium flame.
Strain and purée with orange/apple juice. You can mash these veggies for older kids.
