    Hello friends,

My DH is weighing 103 kilos and recent medical reports of DH indicated high BP and more of bad cholestrol in his body.
    Height is 5' 6"

We both work in IT firms and usually start from home @ 9 AM and reach home @ 8PM.
    We have 2yrs kid.

I need all of ur valuable suggestions in bringing down the bad cholestrol and high BP
Suggestions needed to motivate my DH in taking helthy diet and doing physical activity (basically my DH is very lazy to get up before 8AM and do any form of execrcise)

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Telja and Lakshmi,
Even i had the same problem 3 1/2 years before. My hubby won't eat any greens and had lots of junks daily.
Then he had some problem as acidity, not able to walk for a long distance like 1 km, his belly looked like 7 month pgrenant(i tease him like that). One day i spoke with him about my and DS future(i am not working). Literally blackmailed him that he will spoil our future if he continue like this without any diet control and workout. After that he realize himself and now he lost nearly 9 kgs and maintaining. Now he is under diet. But take mild medicines for BP as he is in IT.

As soon as possible i will give the changes i have made in our lifestyle( if you want). Give me some time plz.

Doctor suggested few changes in daily diet for my DH

    1. Having oats
    2.Wheat/Ragi/Jowar
    3.Fruits
    4.Only olive oil
    5. Cow milk
    6.No fried foods,ghee,bakery food,preserved pickles

All of the above should be followed without fail. Must do - 30-45 mins of excercise

Here is the diet routine of my DH for the last two days

    Before 9AM : masala oats/Wheatflakes with milk
    11:30AM: papaya
1PM: 2 cups rice with curry and curd
    5PM : fruit plate
    8:30PM : 3 roti with curry/Broken wheat upma
10PM:Mango --This should be strictly avoided

No execercise till now,yet to start using olive oil

    Laksmi,
    This is nice.
I want to give advice to you first. Because as you are working, obviously you will have less time.Prepare urself to cook for him with love. Then you don't feel irritated.
Analyse yourself about the diet you are giving, Don't repeat the same thing in the same week. If you try different things, he will also realize your hard work and he will be prompt in diet.

About the diet, you should add some more to the diet.

    Switch to brown rice.
Add more raw vegetables as salads.
Increase the usage of slim or low fat milk for coffee, tea or curd.
Add more than 1 veg as curry , then automatically the rice intake will be less. eg., sambhar , with two curries, adding 2-3 veg in gravies.
Don't avoid his favorite food. Now and then he can have but in a moderate quantity. If it is aloo fry , with that you give some green veg curry or spincah-dal. Then he will take aloo in a less quantity.
Weekly once give his favorite meals. he will be happy.
Don't make him bored with all the diets.
Don't give him the processed food as it will have more salt, that is not good for his BP.(Is that masala oats , home made, if not, then it is not good for him)
Ask him to increase the intake of water.

    As per ur diet
Oats only is not enough for his breakfast. As he is starting diet recently, he will feel often hungry, morning give him some solid healthy food as idli, dosa, chapthi, etc.,with some veg side dish as veg sambhar, chow-chow chutnmey, tomato chutney, capsicum chutney(not with coconut)
You can give the oats for the mid morning.

I will give my husband's normal diet:

morning: water , sometimes amla juice
breakfast: 1 cup brown rice with 2 curry, sambhar, rasam, kara kuzhambu etc
mid morning: oats or butter milk
lunch: chapathi with some veg gravies , mix veg salad with sprouts
eve snack: a box of cut fruits
dinner: pulkas with gravy or broken wheat upma
before bed: 300 ml of milk

The above are all my own views and opinion. Hope u like it.

Lakshmi, one more thing, Don't expect him to change the diet in a single day. Allow him to take time as 4-5 days to settle down with the new life style.

Walking and losing weight has huge impact on blood pressure and lipid profile. If he gets his BP down to normal range by lifestyle changes, he may not require BP/Cholestrol medications at least for the time being.since he is not really motivated, may be fear will work for him?

He should also put some efforts from his end :) . What if you are planning so much for his diet and keeps munching on snacks in office ?
