Fluctuating Faith....

    Faith fluctuates
    with every failing thought
    rising when relieved
    falling when deceived.

    Religiously treading
    the path of abstinence,
    denial and sacrifice,
    devotees give up
    part of themselves
    to serve the Lord,
    to show Him that they care.

    The Makara Jyothi
    no eternal light to life,
    not a medicine to thwart death,
    just a means to an end,
    a faith that keeps humanity running.
    Which ordinary mortal
    has ever vanquished karma
    along the path of superficial devotional fervor?

    Life will come and go.
    Death will visit as it fancies
    Up and down the steps to the Lord's abode.
    Faith only a safety valve
    to accepting life
    for what it is.

    (For the Ayyappa devotees with my condolences to all those who lost their lives in the recent stampede.)

    Yes they say faith moves mountains, i always wonder how people brave so much difficulties top visit shrines, walk barefoot many a times, it really requires faith.

    and yes that stampede was sad, they say there were just 3 policemen for 1 lakh people.shameful to say the least.

    Yes, faith can do a lot of things that is why at times like these when people die during a religious tour I feel their faith must not be dampened.

    After all, karma has its role to play too.

    Just now I read that a man was found alive beneath a heap of 40 bodies. He was also thought to be dead. But found to be alive.

    Another person said he has lot all faith in god due to this mishap.

    It is really difficult to understand such sad incidents.

    I feel sorry for all the families who lost their lives. Your poem is excellent. I am going through a rough period when sometimes doubts the POWER. I shouldn't. Because in my life I had so many ups and downs, "POWER" was with me helping guide. Then why should I feel like that.

    "Faith is only safety valve"- it is very powerful sentence Thanks being there as my friend. May "Power' is coming in your poem to show be to have faith.

    Felt and feeling very sad..whenever I hear this sad news, Shail.
    May their soul rest in peace.

    Very true..these incidents shake the faith and sometimes, couldn't answer those questions that arrive out of such situations.

    Hi Hari,

    I know Hari. In fact, this man who was found under the heap inspired me to compose this poem. Here, he was found below a heap of dead people when he could be dead and yet, the faith had shaken.

    Difficult to understand definitely, and human faith is not always strong. One strong wind of adversity and it shakes...

    Yes, we all are praying that the souls of all these devotees rests in peace. Human beings cannot have the answers to all questions especially to disasters like these. At such times, only faith can give respite.
