Making Sponge Flowers - White Roses

Here is the normal sponge that we all know. So now i have made cute little roses out of these normal sponge material:

    Materials needed:

    1. Sponge (Any colour)
    2. Aluminium wire
    3. Thread
    4. Green tape

    Method:

    1. Take a rectangle piece of sponge of and fold it into half lengthwise

    2. Take a piece of aluminium wire and wrap the folded sponge over the wire in circular motion.

    3. Tie the sponge using thread and wrap it with green wire.

Sounds simple right ?? And yes it is really simple.

Look at this picture and you will come to know.

    Next with solawood flowers..........

    this is the lovely craft........

Sola wood is a naturally obtained material. It is Tapioca peel, treated for craft purpose with which variety of things can be made. It is available in the shops where craft materials are sold. Here we are making a flower basket, a very attractive piece of art.

    Materials Used
    [IMG]

    1. Sola wood - about 20 rolls
    2. Thermocol - 1/2 meter
    3. Hard Board -2 1/2 meters
    4. Cloth - Cotton/Satin/Felt/ Velvet
    5. Glue ( Fevicol)
    6. Flower Making thread
    7. Scissors, carbon, tracing, design, cutter

First choose the design you want to work.

    1. Trace the design onto the thermocol using tracing paper and carbon paper.
    2. Draw the outline of the basket on the thermocol using a pen or pencil.
    3. With a thermocol cutter cut the thermocol through the outline carefully.
    4. Once the cutting is over, remove all the chipped out portions.
    5. Now your basket on thermocol is ready. Keep it aside.
    6. Take your hard board. Cover it with the black or any dark colour cloth. Cover it properly and stretch out or bring the four sides to the back side of the hardboard and paste them to the board using glue( Fevicol).
    7. Your hard board should be of appropriate size, so that your thermocol design can be properly stuck to the board.

    8. Now paste the cut thermocol basket on the hardboard. Then take the sola wood. Press it slightly without pressure so as to make it smooth. Please do not press it hard, so that it becomes too flimsy. Now you have to do the 'weaving' design on the thermocol basket.

To make the Basket : Cut the sola wood into strips of even length and width say, approximately 2cm x 2cms. Each piece can be stuck on the design of the basket lengthwise and breadth wise.

Another method of making a basket : To weave the design of the basket :- Cut the sola wood into strips of even length. Paste the strips at the top edge and side of the basket and leave it loose and weave alternately. After weaving, paste the edges to the thermocol and chop excess sola wood pieces. Sides of the basket should be covered neatly with the sola wood. Now the basket is ready.

To make the Roses:- Cut the sola wood in the shape of petals. Cut the petals of 3 different sizes approximately 200 -300 in nos.

Take a small petal. Roll it and tie it at the bottom with the flower making thread. Arrange 5-7 petals around it and again tie with the thread. Now the flower is ready.

Make around 50-60 flowers of different sizes. Since the solawood is fragile, care should be taken while tying with the thread.

To make Leaf:- Carefully cut and shape 20-30 leaves with the sola wood.

First arrange the flowers and leaves on the top portion , just above the basket. Once you are satisfied with the arrangement, paste them onto the positions using glue (fevicol).

    continuation..............

Tutorial - Crochet a layered flower.

    Crochet a Flower Garden!

Why not? You have the yarn; you have the skills...do it! I call them layered flowers because they are made up of "layers" of crocheted 'rounds'. Simply collect some yarn (you don't need much) that goes nicely together.

If you have a basic understanding of crochet stitches, then it's best to start with a chain of 3 joined in a loop with a slip stitch. Make the first "florette" the largest in diameter, a simple one (as they are best made-up as you go) is to crochet into the centre of your loop 12 trebles (or US I think double crochets) this will give you a small circle about 2 1/2cm (1 inch) in diameter. Then add a row of; 1 single crochet, then 4 chain, then single crochet into the 4th stitch. Repeat till you have created 6 “buttonholes”.

Next row, petals. Each petal consists of “1 single crochet (DC), 1 half double crochet (half treble), 5 double crochets (5 trebles), 1 half double crochet (half treble), 1 single crochet (DC)”

*Note – this is where the 2nd “layer” ends. To make the biggest florette (layer) read on!

[Aust. Treble = US double crochet
Aust. DC = US single crochet] (confusing huh?)

Last row!! Each petal has 9 stitches now (7 “gaps”). I slip stitch 2 stitches between each petal, but whatever works for you best. The trick between petals is not to add any bulk/height.

    Each petal: Into
1st stitch: 1 single crochet (DC).
2nd stitch: 2 half double crochet (half treble).
3rd stitch: 2 double crochets (trebles).
4th stitch: 1 double crochets (trebles).
5th stitch: 2 double crochets (trebles).
6th stitch: 2 half double crochet (half treble).
7th stitch: 1 single crochet (DC).
Repeat for each of the 6 petals. Finished!!

The centre “medallion” – is also worked the same as the centre of the petals. 12 double crochets (trebles). Then the 2nd row is worked as follows into each of the 12 gaps:

    1 single crochet (DC)
    1 half double crochet (Treble)
    2 chain
    1 single crochet (DC)
Repeat into each gap of the 12 stitches.

This forms your little “peaks”. All finished. Layer your petals on top of each other, and choose a pretty bright button and stitch your “layers” together. Your own, layered flower!!
