Flower -49. “Om Shri Sai Shanshaya Hrudhaya Dowrbhalya Papa KarmaVasana Kshayakaraaya Namaha.”

Ashtotram is (praise) offering our prayers to the Divine, through"OM", and the attributes of the Divine.

There are 108 attributes of Sai Baba in Ashtotra Sada Namavali. Each one is an everlasting flower of divine fragrance.

Flower-49: “Om Shri Sai Shanshaya Hrudhaya Dowrbhalya Papa Karma Vasana Kshayakaraaya Namaha”.

Meaning:

My humble salutation to Him who removes all doubt, results of sinful of deeds and sensual pursuits. (Shirdi Sai Trust).

Reflections:

“Asathoma Sathyam Gamaya

Thamasoma Jyotir Gamaya

Mruthoma Amrutham Gamaya”-

“Lead me from Untruth to Truth.

Lead me from Darkness to Light.

Lead me from Death to Immortality.”

(Brahdaranyaka Upanishad-1.111.28).

These three immortal lines of prayers summarises the Brahmam, God, or Guru.

What is Untruth?

The “Maya” of this creation which we experience.

To where we want to be led?

To the truth, the Brahmam, the cause of this Maya which is permanent. Where are we?

We are in the darkness of ignorance.

To where we want to be led?

To the Brahmam, Brilliance of Knowledge,Light.

What appears to be the end?

Death, part completion of this experience.

To what we want to be led?

To Immortality, The Brahmam.

This is possible only when we realize and understand the Brahmam, God,or Guru who is Truth, Knowledge and Immortal.

The true devotee understands himself that the self is just enjoying the Maya, in a series of experiences. The more we believe in the experiences of the five senses and believe them to be true, the more we are in doubt about the transient nature (maya)of these experiences.

It is the trap for more and more of involving in the birth- joy and sufferings-death- birth- joy – sufferings-death cycle. The devotee who has realized the Brahmam, God, or Guru attains the clarity having his doubts removed. While going through the experiences he can distance himself from them. He is unaffected by them. He is led from un truth to truth. He becomes brilliant. He becomes immortal having broken the cycle of births and deaths. Brahmam, God or Guru removes all his doubts and he is free from sensual pleasures and pains.

Tatyasaheb was a sub-judge at Pandharpur in 1909, when Nanasaheb Chandorkar was Mamalatdar there. Both met often and exchanged words. Tatyasaheb did not believe insaints, while Nanasaheb respected them. Nanasaheb often told him the Leelas of Sai Baba and pressed him to go to Shirdi. And see Baba . Noolkar finally agreed to go to Shirdi on two conditions-1) he must get a Brahmin cook and (2) he must get good Nagpur oranges for presentation. Both these conditions were providentially fulfilled. A Brahmin came to Nanasaheb for service and he was sent to Tatyasaheb, and a fruit parcel containing 100 beautiful oranges was received by Tatyasaheb, theconsigner being unknown.

As the conditions were fulfilled, Tatyasaheb had to go to Shirdi. At first Baba was much enraged with him. But, by and by Tatyasaheb got such experiences that he was convinced that Baba was God Incarnate. So he was enamoured of Baba and stayed there till his death. As his end was approaching sacred literature was read out to him, and at the last hour Baba’s Pada- tirth was brought and given to him for drinking. Baba on hearing of his death said,” Oh, Tatya went ahead of us, he won’t be reborn”. (Shri SaiSatcharita-Ch: 31).

He can liberate His devotee from the cycle of births and deaths which is the result of the sinful deeds and sensual pursuits. He can bless His devotee not to be reborn.
