When I was growing up, I never saw my parents choose a gift, wrap it and present it to anybody. They always gave cash or clothes as needed, and sometimes jewelry. Sometime in early adulthood I discovered the fascinating concept of gift-cards or gift-vouchers. They are convenient to give and great to receive. Or so I thought: A dear friend gave me an Amazon gift card a couple of months ago. Since then, I have become an expert at excuses for why I haven’t yet spent it. I would put to shame a career diplomat from any country at how deftly I answer the “what would you like to buy with it” query. It’s made my life so difficult, I say! She asks me in WhatsApp, she asks me when we talk and she also comes in my dreams with the question. : ) Hence, it should not come as a surprise that this month’s FP winner started a thread that is a godsend for people in my predicament. It’s a pleasure to announce @Vedhavalli as the Winner of the Finest Post Award for her excellent thread starter: How To Deflect Unwanted Questions From Friends, relatives &acquaintances Vedhavalli, you have a knack for starting threads that many relate to and many share their thoughts.
