    hi all,
    nice thread, meenloch...
thanx goldenangel for the detailed listing of nutritional values...

one of the advantages of a vegetarian diet is i think the fibre content...greens are rich in fibre, and so are most vegetables like radish, carrot, beetroot, cabbage, cauliflower and sprouts....
cereal grains like rice and wheat originally contain fibre, but it is taken away when they are milled, refined or bleached...

vegetarian sources of protien are our lentils,so go for those dhalls...most beans are also rich in protiens.
soybeans are a very good source of protiens,so including soy products could be a good option for vegetarians...

    cheers,
    sowpar

    Hi Meenloch,

Wow! You have started a healthy thread! Kudos!

    Hi Golden angel,

Thanks for sharing all the useful info.

Indian vegetarian diet has all the fibre and protein we need to lead a healthy lifestyle.

My motto is to eat everything (of course only vegetarian) in moderation.

Balance and moderation are the main keys.

Exercise & a variety in our diet will definitely help us have a normal weight. Definitely we need to take care to choose the right food whether we are working or at home.

If we spend a little time when we shop for groceries..( and not buy impulsively) ...sure that will reflect in our cooking and in turn our body.

    Cheers
    Krithika ( Jithiks)

Thank you everyone for participating in this thread. It lead to some useful insights.

Golden angel has presented a whole lot of information.Thank you dear.

Soybean - I started taking soy milk ( SOY Silk) aftre coming to US. It started altering my periods. So I am not sure, if one can include soy milk as source of soy. Tofu is harmless on other hand. I make soya upma using granules. It's tasty. Also we get green soy bean, which one can use in curries and pulavs and kootus. It fills your tummy really fast.

Kidney beans and Chick pea beans are excellent sources of protein and fibre. Read the labels and you will find out. Low fat cheese is a great option too. So we can have them in sandwiches. It's truly filling. For people who eat eggs, omlette is something which is full of protein. Egg Beaters are awesome. You have eggs minus fat.
