Alex took his regular dose of tranquilizers and got into the bath. As the cold water ran across his body he started to hum. Yet another day and yet another trip. But then there was something creepy that day. Something that unsettled his mind, kind of forewarning him. Should he allow it to bother him? No, he contemplated, as he banished these thoughts. Feeling fresh he got ready and soon was on his way.

46 Mowranghee Street. The time was 6.40 pm. It seemed so weird. The usually teeming narrow lane was today empty. Totally deserted. Resembling a cemetery at midnight. The tormenting eerie dead silence wrecked the compassionate spirit in him as he entered. As he advanced on to the sidewalk, he stepped on the pipeline and it broke under his weight. Cruuuuunk. Water instantly spurted out soaking his chinos and socks alike. As he stared in bewilderment, the steady flow of water gradually turned into a surge of red fluid …blood red. As it gushed forth, he felt the hue reaching up trying to engulf his entire self. He ran, haunted by the ominous devils on his trail. Taunting his very existence it now spread its presence across the evening sky above him, turning it crimson red , as it beckoned the setting red orange sun to usher in the sinister night.

What had come upon him? He was perplexed. It was just a few minutes ago that he had disembarked. Absolutely sane. And he was always accustomed to this street. 36 years he has been visiting.

But today he was on the run. He knew they were after him, the beasts, the fiends, ever pursuing, an harbinger of his end ?.

As he scurried across the path, he stumbled and fell on the garden fence. Smashing it into smithereens. He felt a terrible pain shooting down his right arm. His glasses had fallen off. Feeling miserable he desperately searched for it among the grass. All the while he could hear them, wailing, coming closer, all around, he was now completely surrounded. There was no escape. As he resigned himself to his fate, he could make out a bustle. He strained his eyes to look ahead. He was stupefied. He could see an amazing pitcher plant at the far end of the garden, the size of a gorilla, advancing merrily towards him trampling the other plants in its path. As it danced its way across the flowery garden it swayed and opened its enormous mucilage filled mouth filling the air with a horrible foul stench . In an eager anticipation of a mouth watering relishing fare. And he was the dish .

Fear gripped him. He struggled to get up and with great effort he hobbled across the garden. As he ran he could see the plant approaching at a terrific speed. And he was no match, as the plant leaped across and pounced on him. With an ear deafening roar, it squirted out a sticky gelatinous secretion on its prey and gobbled him with a carnivorous voracity of an incredibly greedy overgrown famished creature.

    The End

Mohan had just finished reading yet another classic horror fiction novel. It was 10 pm and time to retire. As he entered his bedroom , book in hand , his sister glanced at the title , smiled and wished “ Mohan, Good night and sleep tight . Tell your prayers before you sleep.I am sure you will need it tonight. “

    Hi !
Though I could see , soon enough, that it was a bad dream, interest never flagged. The story whizzed along taut and racy. And somehow the weird terror reminded me of Stephen King.
    Enjoyed reading.:thumbsup
