    Hi All,

I would like all of us to take turns presenting a word in english & its usage in a sentence, so that we can learn more words, rather than using the same words over and over. Kindly share your knowledge to boost up the thread.

    Acrid

    Meaning :
(adjective) Unpleasantly sharp, pungent, or bitter to the taste or smell.
Usage: The taste of the salt was strong in my mouth, and I was strangling with the acrid stuff in my throat and lungs.

    Oxymoron

An oxymoron (plural oxymora (Greek plural) or, more often, oxymoron’s) ("sharply dull" in Greek) is a figure of speech that combines normally contradictory terms. They appear in a range of contexts, from inadvertent errors such as extremely average, to deliberate puns like same difference, to literary oxymoron’s that have been carefully crafted to reveal a paradox.

    Funny Oxymoron’s
    1) Clearly misunderstood

    2) Exact Estimate

    3) Small Crowd

    4) Act Naturally

    5) Found Missing

    6) Fully Empty

    7) Pretty ugly

    8) Seriously funny

    9) Only choice

    10) Original copies

    And best of all

    11) Happily Married

    Hi Vijaya (Mam?)

That was nice of u to start this very useful thread. I love English and try to use newly learnt words often.

The collection of oxymorons was lovely. While all the ten are apparently contradictory meaningful words by text, the last one is only by practice!!! na?

Thoughtful of u to have included 11th one also in the list.

    Keep going.

BTW Vijaya, soon after I registered here I had started a thread here - Language comparison. But unfortunately only 2 responses. Since u seem to have a taste on similar lines, see if u could add anything to it. May be there are many words but not many came to my mind.
