Re: How to mark points for embroidery tracing on sarees or kurtas

    Hi all,

    following is from my experience

from pallu to half the length of saree buttas sud be throughout the saree i.e from top to bottom and interval depends of type of design.

For example if the border design is too grand the interval sud be less, so fix the number of buttas(n) and measure the distance between the borders (x) so the distance between buttas(b) = x / (n), take a broom stick and cut it to b length or measuring tape.

1)From the end of pallu measure (b/2) and (b/2) from border end mark a point "A"

    2) Place the tape on the marked point joining top to bottom of the saree breadth wise and mark dots using chalk or marker at the distance of b.

    First row will be done

    3) For second row, mark a point "B" from point "A" at a distance of (b/2) and (b) from border end follow step 2

follow steps 1 to 3 upto half the length of the saree. For lengths between 1/2th - 3/4th , number of buttas will be (c = b/2) half of first buttas. For remaing it will be (d=b/4) one fourth of first buttas.

As Ashu said it will give u crossed patterns of motifs or buttas

    hi sunitha

Re: How to mark points for embroidery tracing on sarees or kurtas

    hi sunitha
sorry for the delay in replying.
there is a standard measurement for the sarees to the worked.
now a days sarees come with blouse attached and normally the total measurement should be 6.50 metres
in that pallu (heavy work) should for a length of 40 inches.
the border on the top side of the saree .......the length upto to the portion where pleats start (i.e. upto the portion where we tuck some length inside) is about 2.5 metres. this is the standard measurement. if the person wearing the saree is too tall they can add some 5 inches more.
    hope i am clear
