RUNNING STITCH: DOUBLE RUNNING STITCH: KASUTHI WORK

    Hi all,

I would like to add a link to a kasuthi sari and kasuthi instructions. Kasuthi work or Dharwari work is done using 2 sets of running stitches and is so called because alternate stitches are done on the onward and the rest are completed on the return

Also I want to know if lets say we post a kantha sari pic and know something about the origin of the stitch can we post on that too?

    hi shobana,
great you have put in a lot of effort to consolidate all stitches under one thread!:thumbsup
bonk i would like to clear a misconception::coffee
KANTHA work does not consist of only running stitch- it consists of various stitches like : JOD- normal running stitch, BEJOD- disjointed running stitch, PAICHANO- whipped running stitch, DHANER SHESH- this stitch is in the form of an arrow, TARA BUTTI- this stitch is in the form of a star, CHARKI BUTTI- this one is like a wheel...!
if you generally see a lot of kantha sarees, they dont incorporate all the stitches, hence the misconception!
i will be starting a thread on kantha instructions in feb, as i'm a little busy completing a tanjore painting order!
:coffee i will try and post at least a few pictures of the stitches tomorrow for your idea! my tutorial will be detailed!

    Hi dhivya,
Thanks for the reply. The stitch is good in 4 threads as it will show up wrll in borders. If time permits try putting in beads[small] with the loops that are not too tight. What do you say?

Anchor is what i use[blindly]Never bothered to check other

    brands.Chitti67 in this forum[lakshmi]

    suggested;-DOUBLEBELL or K N STHREADS.....VIP THREADS,

    these brands have ExtraShine.

See if you can get these thread brands to finish our work with a neat Shine.
