I need help in deciding. I am planning on buying an elliptical or treadmill. But not sure which is better to lose weight. And also if anybody knows where I can get them for cheap it would be great. I checked on amazon,Nextag, pricegrabber.

    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
Elliptical - Soft on your legs, it won't hurt your legs much. It is good for people who has knee problem etc. While using elliptical, your whole body will get used.

Treadmill -- It is as good as brisk walking / jogging.

You have to decide which one suits your purpose.

    Good luck,
    punitha

    Hi Shwetha,

I second Punitha's opinion, to lose weight Elliptical is a good bet. It gives a whole body workout, burns more calories & is easy on the legs too.

Not too sure where u could get it cheap, but i'm sure buying it online is cheaper.

    Cheers!
    Ragini.

    Hi,

I do both treadmill and elliptical. My trainer says that 30 mts brisk walking on the treadmill (even if gradient is 0) is best. After that, if you can do 30 mts on elliptical, it will be great.

My suggestion is get an elliptical. Burns more at less time.

Try asking Shal. She can give you some valuable tips in this matter. Try to send her a pm.

    Hi,
Tread mill or an elliptical.. well, In elliptical you burn a lot of calories than you do on a treadmill in a short amount of time. I think it depends on individuals need whether elliptical or tread mill will suit you.

For me, I prefer elliptical more than a treadmill..As I cannot run on treadmill.
I've been doing some research in buying ellipticals.. as I'm planning to buy one.I'd suggest the following.

    1. Dont buy a machine before you try it out. The thing is you should like working out in the machine you buy whether it is tread mill or elliptical. I'd say try it first for a month at a local Gym if possible or atleast go to the store and try it out atleast 15 mins.. and decide which one you like most and whether you will stick to it. Remember if you buy a machine and if you dont like working out on it regularly its a waste..

    2. If you decide on ellipticals, there is a whole range of products available in the market.. from 6000$ - 100$. Precor , Lifestyle ellipticals are on the costly side and proform , norditrack, reebok and schwinn are on the mid range.. between 200$-600$. Based on my research , schwinn ellipticals are really nice and they have great reviews.
    Amazon.com: schwinn elliptical
They are top selling ellipticals in amazon. I've tried it out in play it again sports they are really sturdy and nice to work out.

    3. I dont know if you've heard about a store called play it again sports.
Play It Again Sports Home | Play It Again Sports Buys and Sells Used Sporting Goods and Fitness Equipment .They sell used/like new fitness machines which are less costly than the new ones.Even if you dont buy the elliptical from them.. they are a good store to try out different brands of elliptical before you purchase a new one some where else.

    4. I'm also looking at craigs list (www.craigslist.com) where people sell their used machines.. This is a good place to buy because most people buy the new machines and hardly use it. But there is a down side of course, we will not have the warrenty as the newer machines.. and we really need to look for any imperfections.. before buying.

    Good luck on your search!

    Pearl
