Nice biography.
Naturally the story appeals to the crowd of immigrants who had made it good (or at least OK, or tolerable) in strange new lands they had gone to study, work, and make a life for themselves.

I happen to read both #1 and #2 in tandem, and that set me to wonder about how the natives view traits of persistence, integrity, grit and so on... from one of their own, versus an immigrant from a different culture.
The Shiv Sena nativists want the strivers from their Bihari, UP, and Tamil communities to go back and strive in their own provinces, among their own lot, and not come to Bombay to take up striving.

The OP story is unusual in that of the many poor immigrants who go a long way away from home to find work/life, very few get ahead in their lives. We see them at work in many of our metro areas. To these workers, they have to run twice as fast to get anywhere.

"Well, in our country," said Alice, still panting a little, "you'd generally get to somewhere else—if you run very fast for a long time, as we've been doing."
"A slow sort of country!" said the Queen. "Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place. If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice as fast as that!" [1]
