    Hi,

    Ingredients:
    Dates - 1 cup (chopped)
    Sugar - 1/2 cup
    Butter - 2 Tbsp
    Milk - 1 cup
    Sodium bi-carbonate - 3/4 tsp
    Maida (flour) - 1 cup
    baking powder - 3/4 Tsp
    vanilla essence - 1/2 Tsp

Mix the first five ingredients and place it on a low flame. Stir till the sugar is dissolved and the mixture just begins to boil. Remove from fire and allow to cool completely. Add essence & flour, sifted with baking powder. Mix well. Pour in a greased aluminium mould and cover the mould with piece of aluminium foil or butter paper. This is to avoid water & steam getting into the bowl.

Pour 3 cups of water in the cooking pan the cooking plate(upturned). when it starts boiling, place the mould (cake mixture bowl) and steam for 1 hour. Cool the pudding for 10- 15 mins and turn it down on a serving plate.

This comes out very well, provided you have covered the bowl.
    Hope that was helpful.

    Cheers!!
    Uma
