No one is perfect, they say. No one’s body is perfect as well, but that does not mean we cannot strive for perfection or do our little bit to look perfect. All women have different figures, but they still can be categorized broadly under one of the four figure types that we have:

The spoon body shape needs to camouflage her full hips and thighs to make it look proportionate with the comparatively smaller upper body and trust me, it is not a hard job once you know what type of clothes you should wear. This body type is also called pear shaped:

The following are the basic characteristics of a typically pear-shaped body:

    1. Wider hips and thighs.
    2. Smaller busts (usually).
    3. Narrower and comparatively smaller upper body.

Wikipedia defines it as Pear or spoon or bell (triangle upward).

The hip measurement is greater than the bust measurement. The distribution of fat varies, with fat tending to deposit first in the buttocks, hips, and thighs. As body fat percentage increases, an increasing proportion of body fat is distributed around the waist and upper abdomen. The women of this body type tend to have a (relatively) larger rear, robust thighs, and a small(er) bosom.

According to the Shop Your Shape Website:

“As a Spoon Body type (sometimes called figure 8), your hips are larger than your bust and you have a defined waist. Your hips have a “shelf” appearance and you are prone to gaining weight in your tummy and have a tendency towards love-handles. While you may gain weight in your upper thighs and upper arms, your lower legs and arms are shapely and your best assets.”

How To Get That Awesome Look:

    1. Loose Trousers/Jeans:

Do not wear the skinny and slim fit jeans that are very popular these days. It will make the thighs and hips look bigger as it really sticks to your body and makes the shape more pronounced.

It is definitely a better idea to wear a loose bottom like the pictures above. They take away the attention from the butt and hips. This look can be teamed up with different-patterned tops, blouses, jackets and shirts to create all kinds of formal, casual and even a chic look. Tapered trousers and jeans are definitely not for the spoon shaped woman. A perfect office wear can be like the following image:

    2. Longer Tops:

Longer tops and tunics can be teamed up with leggings or tighter bottoms to hide the wide hips and thighs. If someone likes the Indian or indo-fusion look, they can go for kurtis and leggings for the casual yet Indian look. Kurtis are a great way to hide the spoon-shaped mid-body as well.

The above pictures that are taken from the internet exemplifies the kind of options available in both Indian and Western style of dressing for the pear-shaped woman.

    3. A-line dresses and Skirts:

They suit almost all body types and are just perfect for the spoon-shaped figures because they excellently hide the wideness and breath of the hips and thighs in its flowy cut. However, it must be kept in mind that the length should not be too short. The purpose of hiding will not be solved in that case.

If you want a classic and sophisticated look, you can go for something like the dress in the picture above.

One can even go for the tube evening dress that accentuates the upper part of the bosy and hides the lower part.

Knee-length A-line skirts teamed with a nice blouse or a sexy shirt can also be one of the pear shaped women’s looks.

    4. Accessories:

Avoid belts and any kind of accessories that accentuate the waist. Instead concentrate on wearing large neck pieces or dangling earrings, beautiful scarves, bangles or even head pieces.

Neckpieces that are huge and chunky can be tried to focus the neck and face.

Dangling earrings serve the same purpose as neckpieces. They embellish the upper part of the body.

Next in line are scarves, which are also perfect:

    Cheers to looking good always
