Ranjan was bored the moment his father requested him to do it. He had to miss the cricket practice that day because of that. While the yearly tournament was to start in a week and his place in his team not permanent, he couldn't feel otherwise. Besides, he had to write a name in a placard and take it to the railway station early, to identify and receive one of his father's friend Mr. Raman. "You know? Raman is a great playwright and has written and directed many plays. I've seen a few too. It has been years since I met him! If only I am not ill now, I would have been there instead of asking you to receive him!", his father said. "Who watches drama these days? Heck! And why should this Raman come now?", Ranjan cursed. But he went to the station, early next morning with a placard which had Raman's name and his place in bold. Raman came and soon, Raman and Ranjan's father were immersed in a converstaion, trying to patch up all too fast. Raman was to be there for 15 days on behalf of a magazine to which he was contributing as an article writer. Soon, the talk turned to cricket. Ranjan played only in the initial league matches, but was sidelined as his team qualified to quarter, semis and the final, for the first time. Raman and Ranjan's father had been there as spectators right from the first day. Ranjan joined them when his side batted. When his side fielded, he substituted in a few matches already. The day came and the ground was crowded. Ranjan prayed fervently and went early in the morning. The match started at 10 AM and the day was pleasant and ideal for cricket. Ranjan's team was to chase a pretty good total and the opponents had a list of good bowlers. And the chase started. The spectators too were glued more and more, as it turned out to be very exciting. Soon, there was a critical point where 9 was needed from 6 balls with just 1 wicket. Rajat, the star batsman of Ranjan's team was in the crease with 50 runs, providing hope. The best bowler of the day started his last over. Raman, Ranjan's father and even Ranjan were all geared up. Soon, it went to the last ball where 4 was required. It was bowled. When Raman wrote a separate article to his magazine later which only covered that final match, there was no mention of which team won.
No. I don't have an account in WordPress, Sanrags. But I have one in google blogspot which I created long time back, but for some reason, I cannot post anything there at all. I just share these blogs that I write in IL in Indiblogger too [came to know about this through IL], but its long since I've been there too. Honestly, its a bit unfair to expect likes or responses from fellow bloggers and friends, if I don't spend time reading theirs. Isn't it? That just happened in Indiblogger. And thanks for your appreciation. Also, please call me just as 'rgs'. -rgs
