Not where I am from. usually, it depends on who is ready to leave the parents house and who is ready to stay. Sometimes for no reason parents prefer younger ones to stay with them, it has been like that with my parents.

In our place, major financial responsibility should come from the son/ daughter who get major share of the parent's property. It is only fair, because most cases (at least in our families) parents have multiple source of income and they tend to spend it over who ever stays with them. It doesn't mean that the other kid/s will not share anything when it comes to the expenses. We both spend money and send whenever needed, but the expected expenses - medicines, routine check up, travel, everything is accounted for is usually taken care of by whoever gets parents pension, revenue and larger portion of land and house. This is in the will or the partition agreement and parents are generally ok with it because they also benefits from it. The house they live in will go to the son/daughter after the parents' lifetime. This way, it is a pretty smooth ride for whoever stays with them. In our case it is slightly different since BIL needs money to buy his own home by selling MIL's house, which is not his name yet.

That's the thing. She is not healthy. She has a lot of health issues. And she and her sons they have the exactly same behavior and pride, they won't give in an inch. She is not ready to live in the house on her own. An astrologist once said to her if she lives there by herself she will be haunted by FIL's soul. She believes that to the word. So she never stayed in the house more than a week after FIL passed away. We slept in her bedroom floor last time we were visiting because she was very scared to sleep in her room by herself. At the same time she has a hard time letting the house go.

MIL wants to live with BIL, but she doesn't want to sell the house or property. she is 72 now and we will not be able to afford to bring her here because of the current health issues. We have been checking in on her every year or between 6-8 months so far. She has an entourage with her, just not her sons. Her emotional issues come from that loneliness which both of her sons refuse to acknowledge.

I guess it depends. If parents give all of the property to one son/daughter and later there was issues between them and if any serious medical conditions arises for the parents, they cannot ask the other son/daughter to take care of all the expenses despite the fact that they have given all of their money who has spent it all. In such cases there is a limit for the son/daughter who didnt receive any money from parents, who has their own kids to take care of, will be forced to spend from his/her savings, which is not fair.
