Puni thats true what you said, when you didn't give dowry, the bride and her family has to suffer so much in many diferent ways when come to the Inlaws house for long time, i can say even ever in different situations. This was modren trend, Inlaws don't ask money, still expect. If you argue with them you didn't ask we didn give. Then they are going to show no body says you have to know. This is the Situations i heared alot in my Research. What do you think.

Dowry is definitely a bad insect nourished by few creepers in the society. It is very sad to know that girls are harassed due to dowry. Some are burnt and killed too. When a man is not able to fend for himself, he should not take the responsibility of getting another member in the family.
This happens when someone tries to accomplish his dreams through others. It is impossible to get satisfaction from others labours and funds. Toil and earn your bread and enjoy the freshness it offers. There is not blood shed here, only sweat shed which will definitely pay you in the long run. Parents in villages treat male child like Gods and they grow up believing to be one.

Primarily, woman has to be independent to overcome all obstacles of life. Dowry in not the only insect waiting for her.. there are many too..

Whatever has been written here in this forum is total junk. Facts are just opposite.

A woman gets free housing, free meals, free (expensive) clothes, free cosmetics, free jewellery, free car, free air-conditioner, free water, free power, free telephone, free medical care, free domestic and foreign pleasure trips and all other necessities, amenities and luxuries of life in her husband's house. She gets TV, fridge, geyser, microwave, gas stove, washing machine and all other household gadgets completely free of cost in her husband's house.

All these amenities cost money. They do not come for free. There is no reason why husband or husband's father alone should provide these and not wife or wife's father? Ideally both the parties should contribute equally in arranging these things.

A husband inherits all his father's movable and immovable property, whereas a wife gets just nothing from her father. A wife comes empty handed into her husband's house like a refugee and becomes the owner of all her husband's and her father-in-law's assets and property just within one day.

All fathers search a groom for their daughter who is earning very well, is well settled, and whose father owns a lot of immovable property. They make extensive enquiries about not only the boy's salary and finances but also his father's, before settling the alliance. They never forget to ask how much jewellery will the boy's father will give to their daughter. But if boy's side even asked one question about how much 'stree dhan' will they give to their own daughter at the time of marriage, they will climb at the top of the world and shout that they are being demanded dowry. Such is the greediness and double standards of women and their parents.

Dowry is a very very small (infinitesimally small) portion of the money which is needed for arranging the amenities of life which a newly married couple will need in its life. Not giving anything to a daughter at the time of her marriage means that one should keep everything for one's son. So, sons are precious and daughters are worthless!

Our boys have been emotionally blackmailed by the Indian society with the logic that asking for dowry or any share in father-in-law's property is against their 'mardanagi' (manliness). Its time boys stand against such blackmail and recognize, demand and do not forego their rights.

Are you talking about a wife or paying guest? Who takes care of the kids? Who manages the house? What about cooking? And last but not the least who listens to your constant ranting. Please stop your nonsense. And if you give jewelry during wedding what's the big deal, it's finally landing in your kitty, it is not going to her parents or for that matter herself. What about the marriage expenses, the money doesn't count? On top of it you want dowry too. And if possible a working wife who will listen and give nod to whatever you say, take job at your convenience and listen to your parents' and extended family's **** and also one who fits very well in your friends' circle and makes them go green with jealousy. Looks like you are one frustrated man. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I am sorry to inform u but dowry laws are one of the most worst and sexist law in ipc. One complain by the woman and the blame is on the husband. Most of the ipc laws the the offender has to be proved guilty, in dowry law the husband has to prove himself innocent.

And the second thing dowry law is the most misused law in india . More than half the cases of dowry are filed by disgruntled woman, who have a grudge against their husband the real victims suffer on. It the sad reality.

When guys like Mr Agarwal think it is okay to demand dowry as their right, the law seems fine.
I agree it is misused ...still with no end to dowry deaths ,such laws are required. The falsely accused can get justice n court but the burnt and hung to death victims of dowry don't have recourse to such justice.

I accept you as my slave and in return you pay for your expenses and your bloody master - is that what is still in existence?

Shame on men who demand and women who oblige.

I totally get u point and by no meaning u should think that I am pro dowry and against dowry laws.

Dowry law came into being in 1860 . That's like more than a century old. What I meant was dowry laws should before gender neutral. These days it has become a money minting machine for the police, the lawyers and the wife.
I think dowry laws should be made more stronger that, at least we can decrease the percentage of the false complaints.
Do u until recently if the wife made any complaint against the husband, the police would arrest him at their whim and fancy but recently the Supreme Court had passed a judgement that the husband could be arrested only on a magistrate order.

It's the same thing - one bad fish makes the whole pond go bad
