    Re: Sequential Screening

    Hi Lamom,

Firstly hearty congratulations on being a to be mom !!:cheers. Secondly, regarding your concern as to which tests they perform in sequential screening, click on following link and they tell u which tests are performed every trimester..
Maternal Blood Screening for Birth Defects - March of Dimes

If you ask my opinion, u need not go for it. However u are too keen and if u or ur husband has a family history of genetic disorders, u can go in for any NON-INVASIVE tests. WHich means that they don't inject any kind of needle in your lower abdomen.. eg taking amniotic fluid etc. THAT SHOULD BE COMPLETE NO. If they want to do ur blood test, its fine. That anyways they pierce u in the arm. But otherwise, I suggest keep away from it..

Like pmahensa suggested, u can go for the blood test and U/S. That'll tell u if baby is at increased risk of heart disease and also Down's Syndrome..

Re: Lesser than expected BPD during scan

This has come up before Poornima, another mom here had a similar kind of scare, the u/s people jumping the gun and telling the mom things when it should be the ob/gyn.
I am not sure what others experiences with Mediscan has been. With us, the scan technician did the readings and passed on the results to the hospital. It has always been the doctor who interpreted the readings and tell us if was well. Even when there is an issue, if the issue is put across by the doctor, with how trivial or non-trivial it is and how it can be tackled, you as a patient do feel empowered.
For the sake of moms, I wish stuff like this did not happen! Hugs for your friend.

    Hi All,

Thanks for your wishes for my friend. Will pass on them to her.

Krithika - I can't agree more with you. I too had been to Mediscan and my experience with them was good. i really liked them. Absolutely professional and organised. If there is an issue the best person to advise the patient is the doctor. The scan people have to be very careful about what they say and do. A lot depends on them and they are weighed down by this responsibility.

    Regards,
    Poornima.

    Hi CG,

    Congratulations !!!!.

Don't worry regarding this test, even they took for me last year.

Its always safe to know the foetus condition during early days itself. Even later during my8th month till delivery i had stress test.

Here in U.S not all but many doctors do all the test to make sure foetus is in good condition.

Be positive and enjoy your pregnancy.

i think the initial down syndrome test is just a blood test..it was optional for me..i didnt do one..if the motherr's age is above 35, that test is compulsary..anyways its good to do one..i felt i must have gone for that..all the best..

Yes it is very common to get a down syndrome test here. It is just to know the condition of the fetus. Don't worry. :thumbsup
